What flavoxate is for
Picture a bladder that squeezes before it is full: you get up three times a night, plan every journey around a toilet, and sometimes do not make it. That is overactive bladder, and it is the main reason people look for flavoxate, which loosens the muscle in the bladder wall. The same tablet is used for burning, frequent or night-time urination when the prostate, bladder or urethra is inflamed, and for aching above the pubic bone.
Flavoxate is not an antibiotic. If an infection sits behind the symptoms, that needs its own treatment; the tablet only settles the bladder. It belongs to the antimuscarinics, which block the nerve signals that tell the bladder muscle to contract.

How flavoxate is taken
