How hydroxyzine is taken

It makes many people drowsy, so hold off on driving or using machinery until you have seen how a dose affects you. A glass of wine or another sedating medicine will deepen that drowsiness, and a second antihistamine on top adds dry mouth and sleepiness. Side effects and who should avoid it
Typical reactions are dry mouth, headache, dizziness and drowsiness, and confusion shows up more often in older adults. Trembling you cannot control, seizures, and a rash with pus-filled blister-like sores and fever are the serious reactions and need urgent treatment.
Hydroxyzine can affect heart rhythm, so a prolonged QT interval (a heart condition that may cause fainting or an irregular heartbeat) rules it out, and a history of slow or irregular heartbeat, heart failure or heart attack calls for particular care. It is not advised in pregnancy or breastfeeding, and adults aged 65 and over are not usually given it because other medicines for the same problem are safer.
