Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor. It blocks the angiotensin-converting enzyme, the step that turns a harmless protein into a hormone that tightens arteries; with that step blocked, blood vessels stay wider, the heart meets less resistance with each beat and the kidneys pass a little more salt and water. It is used for high blood pressure, on its own or with other medicines, and with other medicines for heart failure; after a heart attack it improves survival. Lisinopril is not combined with sacubitril with valsartan, or with aliskiren in people who have diabetes.
