Mebendazole is an oral worm treatment for pinworm, roundworm, hookworm and whipworm, sold here as 100mg tablets under two names: Mebendazole and Vermox.

Mebendazole 100mg tablets treat pinworm, roundworm and hookworm infections, taken as a single dose or a short course depending on the worm.
Mebendazole is an anthelmintic, which simply means a medicine that kills and clears intestinal worms. It treats the four that most often live in the bowel: pinworm (threadworm), roundworm, hookworm and whipworm. People pick them up from soil, food, water, or from fingers and surfaces carrying eggs. Pinworm is the one that gets noticed — itching around the back passage at night, broken sleep, and sometimes tiny white threads in the stool. The others tend to show themselves as stomach ache, loose stools, wind or a run-down feeling.
The medicine works inside the worm, not on you. It stops a protein called tubulin from building the microtubules that hold the worm's cells together, so the worm cannot take in glucose, runs out of energy and dies. The body then passes it out with the stool. Very little mebendazole reaches the bloodstream, which is why the effect stays in the gut.
Tablets go in by mouth and can be swallowed whole or chewed; if swallowing is awkward, crushing one into a spoonful of food works too. Food makes no difference to how well it works. Pinworm needs a single 100mg tablet, then a second tablet two weeks later, because eggs left behind can hatch after the first dose has gone. Roundworm, hookworm and whipworm need 100mg twice a day for three days.
Both come as 100mg tablets, so the choice is about the name on the box rather than the strength. Mebendazole carries the ingredient's own name. Vermox is the brand name mebendazole has been sold under for decades; the tablet inside holds the same 100mg of the same ingredient. Either one fits the courses above. Most people notice little beyond a day or two of stomach pain, diarrhoea, wind or nausea; headache and rash are also reported. A swollen face, lips or throat, or a rash that spreads, needs urgent attention — that is a rare allergic reaction rather than a side effect to sit out. Cimetidine, taken for heartburn or ulcers, slows the way the body handles mebendazole and can push its levels up. Mebendazole is usually avoided in the first three months of pregnancy.
The treatment kills the worms in the gut; it does nothing about the eggs waiting on bedding, pyjamas, towels or under fingernails. Wash hands before eating and after the toilet, keep nails short, and put bedding and nightwear through a hot wash on the day of treatment. In a household where pinworm keeps returning, treating everyone at the same time is what breaks the cycle. Keep the tablets somewhere cool and dry, out of reach of children.

Yes. Children take the same 100mg tablet as adults, and pinworm in a child is treated with the single dose plus the repeat two weeks later. A tablet can be chewed, or crushed into a spoonful of food for a young child who finds swallowing difficult.
The first tablet kills the adult worms but not the eggs they have already laid. Those eggs hatch over the following days, and the worms they release are too young to be caught by the first dose. The second tablet two weeks later clears that new generation.
