Someone with a fungal toenail should expect to take Lamisil for about twelve weeks; a fingernail needs roughly six, because fingernails grow faster. Each day it is a single 250mg tablet with a glass of water, at any time and with or without a meal. The last tablet does not leave a clear nail. The fungus is dead by then, but the damaged nail has to grow out, and that can take several more months.
Side effects worth knowing
Headache, stomach upset, loose stools and itching are the common complaints. Some people notice that food tastes metallic or flat during the course; taste comes back after the last tablet. Sleep and mood change in a few people. Skin may also burn faster in the sun, so wear sunscreen on bright days.
