What avanafil does
Avanafil is a PDE5 inhibitor, a class that also includes sildenafil and tadalafil. It is taken for erectile dysfunction, which covers erections that are too soft or too brief for sex. The tablet acts only when you are sexually aroused: it relaxes the muscle in the penile arteries so that more blood can flow in. Without arousal nothing happens, and the cause of the problem is left as it was, so each dose helps for a stretch of time and then wears off.
Taking a tablet
Swallow one with water roughly 15 to 30 minutes before sex. A meal or an empty stomach both work. Take no more than one tablet a day, and only on days when you want it; this is not a daily course. Avanafil is for men.
Which avanafil tablets are sold
The plain ingredient comes as Avana tablets in 50mg, 100mg and 200mg; the same tablets are also sold under the name Avanafil tablets. Where early ejaculation is also a concern, three products add dapoxetine, a short-acting treatment for premature ejaculation: Super Avana 100/60mg, Extra Super Avana 200/60mg and Top Avana 50/30mg. The first number in each pair is the avanafil strength, the second is dapoxetine, so one tablet does two jobs. Super Avana and Extra Super Avana hold the same 60mg of dapoxetine and differ only in the avanafil dose. Avana is the only single-ingredient option here.
Side effects and warnings
Most men notice little more than a headache, a flushed face or a stuffy nose, gone within a few hours, and back pain or indigestion now and then. The serious signs are few. An erection that has not gone down within four hours is an emergency, as is sight lost suddenly in one eye or both. A sudden change in hearing, chest pain during sex, or a heartbeat that races or skips belongs in the same group.
Nitrates and other medicines
Nitrate drugs for angina — glyceryl trinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate — are the main thing to avoid. They come as tablets, sprays, patches and ointments, and alongside avanafil they can send blood pressure dangerously low. The same is true of riociguat and of recreational poppers. Certain antibiotics, antifungals and HIV medicines can change how the body breaks the tablet down, and alpha-blockers can add to the fall in blood pressure. Keep the tablets in their blister packs somewhere cool and dry.
