FAQ
Which Amitriptyline strengths and pack sizes can I order?
Amitriptyline comes as tablets in 10mg, 25mg, 50mg and 75mg. Packs range from 30 up to 360 tablets for 10mg and 25mg, 60 up to 360 for 50mg, and 30 up to 180 for 75mg. Prices are per tablet in Hong Kong dollars, and larger packs cost less per pack.
Can I cancel or track my Amitriptyline order?
Yes. You can cancel an Amitriptyline order within 24 hours if it has not yet been dispatched, and follow it on the tracking page. Support answers 24/7 in English and Cantonese by live chat. Tracked courier takes 5 to 9 business days; airmail takes 14 to 21, untracked.
What is another name for amitriptyline?
Brand names for amitriptyline include Elavil, Endep, Laroxyl, Tryptizol and Tryptomer. Amitriptyline tablets are a pure generic amitriptyline product and are not any of those brands. Here, amitriptyline can also be bought online as generic Elavil.
What is amitriptyline 10mg used for?
It is the lowest step, and it is where treatment for nerve pain and for migraine prevention normally begins, as well as depression in some cases. Depression often needs the dose raised to the higher tablets over several weeks.
Does amitriptyline make you sleepy?
Yes, drowsiness is one of its best-known effects, which is why it is commonly taken in the evening. The sleepiness often lessens after the first weeks. Until you know how it affects you, take care with driving.
How long does amitriptyline take to work?
Usually a few weeks, and sometimes longer, before the full effect arrives. Drowsiness and dry mouth show up first, well before any benefit to mood or pain, which can make the early days feel like all cost and no gain.
Can I drink alcohol with amitriptyline?
Alcohol adds to the sedation and dizziness, so even a small amount can feel stronger than usual. Sleepiness, poor coordination and a drop in blood pressure on standing up all get worse, so it is best avoided.
About Amitriptyline
Amitriptyline 10mg, 25mg, 50mg and 75mg tablets
Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant, and its two main jobs are treating depression and easing neuropathic pain, the burning or stabbing pain that comes from damaged nerves. It is also used to prevent migraine and for the nerve pain that can linger after shingles. The range here, from 10mg up to 75mg, exists because treatment normally starts with a low dose and is raised in steps. The 10mg tablet is the smallest step and the 75mg the largest.
Inside the body, more serotonin and noradrenaline stay available between nerve cells, which affects both mood and the way pain signals are handled. Most side effects trace back to a second action, blocking histamine and acetylcholine receptors.
Taking amitriptyline
Most people take amitriptyline in the evening, because sleepiness comes with it. One tablet with water, at the same hour each day. The full benefit takes a few weeks or longer, so feeling better is no reason to stop: halting suddenly can bring nausea, headache and flat energy, and the dose is brought down in steps. Store it at ordinary room temperature.
What to watch for
Sleepiness, a dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision and weight gain are the usual complaints, and they tend to ease as the body adjusts. A pounding or irregular heartbeat, fainting, a seizure or a painful, red eye needs urgent treatment. Antidepressants can bring on suicidal thoughts in people up to age 24, mainly at the start and after a dose change, so new agitation or dark thoughts matter.
It should not be taken within two weeks of an MAOI antidepressant, nor after a recent heart attack or with a heart rhythm problem, and narrow-angle glaucoma rules it out. Tramadol, St John's wort and other antidepressants add to the risk of serotonin syndrome, an overload of serotonin that causes agitation, sweating and tremor.
Amitriptyline or Elavil
Elavil is the same ingredient in 10mg, 25mg and 50mg tablets, so the 75mg strength is found only here. The full background on the drug is on the amitriptyline page.
