What you will receive
Amoxil is the originator brand name, made by GSK. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Amoxil.
- The same active ingredient (Amoxicillin) at the same strength.
- The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.
FAQ
Which Amoxil strengths and pack sizes can I order?
Amoxil is listed in 250mg, 500mg, 625mg and 1000mg. Packs range from 10 to 270 depending on strength. The pack contains generic amoxicillin, not the original Amoxil. Larger packs cost less per dose.
How is Amoxil delivered to Hong Kong?
Amoxil orders to Hong Kong can go by tracked courier in 5 to 9 business days, with online tracking, or by standard airmail in 14 to 21 business days, untracked. Every order ships in plain, unbranded packaging. If a parcel goes missing within the delivery window, it is sent again free.
What are the alternative names for Amoxil and amoxicillin?
Amoxil and Trimox are brand names of amoxicillin, which is also sold as Almox, Mox, Moxikind and Novamox. Here, amoxicillin can be bought online as generic Amoxil, and also as Cenmox, generic Trimox and amoxicillin tablets. These are generics, not the original brand.
How long does Amoxil take to work?
Two or three days is typical before an infection starts to ease, sometimes longer for a deeper one. Finish the pack even when you feel well, because the bacteria still hanging on are the ones that come back. No change after several days suggests a virus rather than bacteria.
Can I drink alcohol with Amoxil?
There is no known interaction between alcohol and amoxicillin, and a drink will not stop the antibiotic working. It can, however, make a queasy stomach feel worse, so many people simply leave alcohol alone until the course is over.
What if I miss a dose of Amoxil?
Take a missed capsule as soon as you think of it, provided the next dose is still hours away. If the next one is nearly due, leave the missed capsule out and carry on as usual. Do not double up to catch up.
Does Amoxil affect the contraceptive pill?
Amoxicillin is not one of the antibiotics that make hormonal contraception less reliable — that applies to rifampicin and rifabutin, used for other infections. Vomiting or severe diarrhoea can still stop the pill being absorbed, so the usual missed-pill rules apply.
Can I take Amoxil with paracetamol or ibuprofen?
Yes — amoxicillin does not interact with the everyday painkillers paracetamol or ibuprofen, so either can be taken for a fever or headache during the course. Take them at their normal doses and keep the capsules to their regular schedule.
About Amoxil
What Amoxil is used for
Amoxil is amoxicillin, a penicillin antibiotic aimed at bacterial infections: pneumonia and other chest infections, infected skin, and urinary tract infections. It is also one of the medicines in the course that clears Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium behind many stomach ulcers. Anything caused by a virus, from colds to flu, lies outside what it can treat.
How it works
A bacterium keeps its shape with an outer wall knitted like a mesh, and once that mesh fails the cell breaks apart. Amoxicillin blocks the bacterial enzyme that stitches the mesh, so the germ dies. Human cells are built differently, which is why the antibiotic can be aimed at the infection without damaging your own tissue.
Getting the timing right
Doses are spread through the day, often every 8 or 12 hours, and a steady level in the body comes from keeping to a regular pattern — morning and evening is easy to remember. Swallow each dose with water. If it leaves your stomach unsettled, have it with food; eating does not reduce how much you absorb. Most people notice a difference within the first few days, but finish the pack: leaving it half done lets the tougher bacteria survive and return.
Side effects
Nausea, a queasy stomach and loose stools are the usual complaints, caused by the antibiotic disturbing the gut's normal bacteria. Some people see a temporary yellow, brown or grey tinge on their teeth, which fades. Wheezing, swelling of the lips, face or tongue, or difficulty breathing after a dose is a severe allergic reaction and needs urgent treatment. Severe or bloody diarrhoea, or diarrhoea that lasts after the pack is empty, can point to inflammation of the bowel and also needs urgent treatment.
Strengths, and the related amoxicillin brands
Amoxil is listed in 250mg, 500mg, 625mg and 1000mg. Other amoxicillin products sit alongside it: Amoxicillin tablets in 250mg and 500mg, and capsules in the same two strengths from Cenmox and Trimox. Each contains amoxicillin as its active ingredient and differs only in brand name. The amoxicillin page gathers the whole range.
