What you will receive

Androgel is the originator brand name, made by AbbVie. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Androgel.

  • The same active ingredient (Testosterone) at the same strength.
  • The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.

FAQ

What pack sizes does Androgel come in?

Androgel 1% sachets come in packs of 15, 30 or 45. This is generic testosterone, not the original Androgel. Larger packs cost less per sachet.

How discreet is Androgel delivery to Hong Kong?

Androgel orders ship in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing on the outside about the contents. Tracked courier takes 5 to 9 business days with online tracking, while standard airmail takes 14 to 21 business days, up to 30, and is untracked. You can pay by Visa, Mastercard or American Express on a secure, encrypted page.

Does Androgel have other names?

Androgel is a brand name of testosterone, which is also sold as Androderm, Axiron, Natesto and Testogel. Here, testosterone can be bought online as generic Androgel, and also as testosterone topical sachets. These are generics, not the original brand.

How long does Androgel take to work?

Testosterone in the blood rises from the first daily dose and settles into a steady level after a few days of use. Changes in energy, mood and sex drive come more slowly, over weeks rather than days, and the dose is adjusted from blood test results rather than from how the first few mornings feel.

Can I shower or swim after applying Androgel?

The gel needs time to dry and be absorbed, so a shower straight after a dose can wash part of it away. Bathe or swim before you apply the gel, or leave a few hours between the dose and the water. Once the gel is dry, cover the area with clothing.

What if I forget my Androgel in the morning?

Apply the sachet when you remember, provided it is still the same day, and carry on as normal the next morning. One sachet a day is the dose, so never put on two to compensate. If the day has gone, simply start again the following morning.

Can Androgel rub off on my partner?

Yes. Testosterone passes through skin contact to a partner or child and may affect them. Covering the dried site with a shirt and washing your hands after each application are the steps that stop transfer; if someone is touched, soap and water on that skin removes the gel.

What does the 1% on an Androgel sachet mean?

It is the concentration of the gel: one per cent of the gel's weight is testosterone, so the figure describes how strong the gel is gram for gram rather than the total amount in a sachet. Sachets are used whole, and a higher percentage would mean a stronger gel.

About Androgel

What the sachets are for

Androgel is a testosterone gel in single-use sachets, 1% strength. It is used by men whose bodies make too little testosterone — low testosterone, or hypogonadism — and it works by replacing the hormone the body normally produces. Testosterone drives male sex development and is involved in muscle and bone strength, red blood cell production, mood and sex drive, so topping it up eases the tiredness, low mood and poor libido that a shortage brings. The gel is a topical form: the hormone is absorbed through the skin into the blood instead of passing through the stomach.

Applying a sachet

One sachet a day, in the morning. Squeeze the whole sachet onto skin that is clean, dry and unbroken, such as the shoulders, upper arms or abdomen, and smooth it over a broad area in a thin layer instead of one small thick patch. Keep it off the genitals. Wait for it to dry, then put a shirt on over the site and wash your hands with soap and water straight away. Testosterone transfers by skin contact, so women and children should not touch the treated area, and washing or swimming is best done before you apply rather than just after.

Common and serious effects

Where the gel goes on, skin can redden, dry out or itch, and acne and headaches also turn up. Other changes show on blood tests: testosterone raises red blood cell numbers and can push blood pressure up, which is why levels are monitored. It can also worsen sleep apnoea (pauses in breathing during sleep), cause blood clots or affect the prostate. Chest pain, sudden breathlessness, or numbness or weakness in an arm or leg need urgent treatment. The gel is for adult men; women, teenagers and children should not use it.

Interactions and storage

Testosterone can strengthen the effect of blood thinners such as warfarin, and using it alongside corticosteroid medicines increases the chance of fluid retention — swelling in the ankles and feet. Keep the sachets dry and out of direct sunlight, away from radiators, and do not freeze them; extreme heat or cold spoils the gel.

Androgel or Testosterone Topical?

Both are 1% testosterone gel in sachets, used for the same purpose. Testosterone Topical is the unbranded version of the same strength and sachet format, so choosing between them comes down to the name on the pack. Either gives you a once-daily topical dose.
