What you will receive

Artane is the originator brand name, made by American Cyanamid. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Artane.

  • The same active ingredient (Trihexyphenidyl) at the same strength.
  • The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.

FAQ

Which Artane pack sizes can I order?

Artane is offered as generic trihexyphenidyl 2mg tablets in packs of 30 up to 360. The pack contains generic trihexyphenidyl, not the original Artane. The page shows the price per tablet in Hong Kong dollars, and the largest packs work out lower per tablet.

How can I pay for my Artane order?

Pay with Visa, Mastercard or American Express on a secure, encrypted payment page, or with Bitcoin or Ethereum. Your card details never reach the shop's servers. If a parcel does not arrive within the delivery window or arrives damaged, it is sent again free, or refunded if that is not possible.

What other names is trihexyphenidyl sold under?

Artane is a brand name of trihexyphenidyl, which is also sold as Pacitane. Here, trihexyphenidyl can be bought online as generic Artane. These are generics, not the original brand.

How quickly does Artane work?

It is not a fast-acting tablet. Trihexyphenidyl is taken at set times each day, and the level in your body builds over the first days and weeks of regular use; that steady level is what eases tremor and stiffness. Taking an extra tablet does not speed this up.

Can I drink alcohol while taking Artane?

One or two drinks can leave you drowsier, dizzier and more unsteady on your feet than usual, and the dry mouth and blurred vision the tablets cause often feel worse. Alcohol is best kept to a minimum while you are taking trihexyphenidyl.

Can Artane be taken with other Parkinson's medicines?

Yes, that is its usual role. Trihexyphenidyl is added to other Parkinson's treatment and aimed at the tremor and stiffness, rather than replacing those medicines. The overlap in side effects matters mostly with other anticholinergic medicines, which can add to dry mouth and constipation.

Does Artane affect the eyes?

It reduces a chemical the eye muscles use to focus, so near vision can blur and the eyes can feel dry. In people with narrow-angle glaucoma — where the eye's drainage channel is narrow — it can push the pressure inside the eye up, so it is not used there.

Can older adults take Artane?

It is usually passed over after 65. Dizziness, confusion and memory problems are more likely at that age, and other medicines often control Parkinson's symptoms better with fewer of these effects.

About Artane

What Artane tablets are for

Trihexyphenidyl belongs to the anticholinergic family: it blocks the action of acetylcholine, one of the chemical messengers the nervous system uses to tighten muscles and pass on nerve signals. It is taken alongside other medicines for Parkinson's disease — the condition that disturbs movement, muscle control and balance — where it eases tremor (shaking) and stiffness. It is also used to settle the movement problems that some medicines for mental health conditions can bring on, such as tremor, muscle tightness and slurred speech.

How the tablets are taken

Expect a spread of three or four doses through the day; meals make no difference. The first tablets are usually a low amount, and it goes up in small steps until the tremor and stiffness ease. Coming off it is gradual too, because Parkinson's symptoms can return fast when trihexyphenidyl is cut off.

Side effects to expect

Dry mouth leads the list, and sips of water or sugar-free gum take the edge off it. Blurred vision, dizziness, constipation, headache, an upset stomach and trouble passing urine follow, and many of these settle as treatment continues. Confusion and memory trouble are more likely in older people. A fast, irregular or pounding heartbeat, fever, confusion, hallucinations, delusions or a rash need urgent treatment.

Alcohol and other medicines

Alcohol makes the drowsiness and dizziness worse. Sleeping tablets, sedatives, some antihistamines and other medicines with anticholinergic action add to the same effects, so the dry mouth, constipation and blurred vision can all sharpen when another of them is in the mix.

What you are ordering, and how to keep it

This listing is generic trihexyphenidyl 2 mg tablets, in packs from 30 up to 360. Keep them in the sealed container they arrive in, somewhere cool and dry and away from strong light. More on the ingredient itself is on the trihexyphenidyl page.
