What you will receive

Cardizem is the originator brand name, made by Valeant. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Cardizem.

  • The same active ingredient (Diltiazem) at the same strength.

FAQ

Which Cardizem strengths and pack sizes can I order?

Generic diltiazem tablets come in 30mg, 60mg, 90mg, 120mg and 180mg, with packs of 30 to 360 tablets. It is generic diltiazem, not the original Cardizem. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

How can I track a Cardizem order to Hong Kong?

Orders for generic diltiazem can be cancelled within 24 hours if not yet dispatched. Tracking is on the tracking page, and support answers 24/7 in English and Cantonese by live chat.

What other names is diltiazem sold under?

Cardizem and Cartia XT are brand names of diltiazem, which is also sold as Dilzem, Herbesser, Tildiem and Adizem. Here, diltiazem can be bought online as generic Cardizem, and also as diltiazem tablets. These are generics, not the original brand.

How long does Cardizem take to work?

A first dose starts lowering pressure inside a few hours, though full strength takes longer. About a fortnight of steady dosing brings the whole benefit, and angina attacks should grow less frequent over that stretch.

Does Cardizem stop an angina attack?

No. It is a preventer, taken on a schedule so attacks come less often. Pain that has already started needs a fast-acting nitrate spray or tablet, which relieves it within minutes. Diltiazem does nothing for an attack once the pain is under way.

Can I eat grapefruit while taking diltiazem?

Better not. Grapefruit blocks the enzyme that breaks diltiazem down, so more of the medicine stays in the bloodstream and effects such as flushing, dizziness and a slow pulse grow stronger. The enzyme stays affected for longer than the drink lasts.

Why does diltiazem make my ankles swell?

The medicine widens the small blood vessels, and fluid leaks into the tissue around the ankles as a result. It is one of the more common effects, and often looks worse at the end of the day or after standing for a long time. Raising your feet when you sit can help.

Can I drink alcohol with Cardizem?

Alcohol is not forbidden, but it tends to make the dizziness and light-headedness worse and can add to any fall in blood pressure. If you do drink, keeping to a small amount is the sensible approach while you are taking these tablets.

About Cardizem

What Cardizem tablets are for

Cardizem tablets contain diltiazem and come in 30mg, 60mg, 90mg, 120mg and 180mg strengths. They are used for two things: high blood pressure and angina — the chest tightness or pain that appears when the heart muscle is not getting enough blood. It does not cure either problem: pressure and chest pain stay under control only while the tablets are taken, and the full effect builds over the first couple of weeks. An attack of angina that is already under way is not what these tablets are for.

How diltiazem works, and why the doses are spread out

Take the first tablet of the day and, within hours, the cells in your artery walls are getting less calcium. Calcium is what tells that muscle to tighten, so with some of it kept out the walls slacken and the channel inside widens. The heart then has less to push against and pressure falls. The arteries that feed the heart muscle itself open up too, which makes chest pain less likely, and impulses move more slowly through the heart's electrical tissue, which is how diltiazem settles some fast or uneven rhythms.

By evening that tablet has largely cleared from the body, so Cardizem is taken three or four times across the day at fairly even gaps, each with water and with or without food. Let the gaps stretch and symptoms drift back; stopping all at once may bring a flare.

Side effects you may notice

In the first days, a headache, a flushed face or a dizzy spell is what people mention, and the pulse can run slower than usual. Puffy ankles, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, a blocked nose and a cough turn up for some. Most of this eases as the body gets used to the tablets. Swelling of the face, lips or tongue is different and needs urgent treatment.

Grapefruit and other medicines

Grapefruit juice interferes with the enzyme that clears diltiazem, so levels rise and the side effects above become more likely; skip it while on these tablets. Beta-blockers and diltiazem together slow the heart more than either alone. Diltiazem also lifts the level of some statins, which can bring on muscle aches, and it interacts with ciclosporin and certain heart-rhythm drugs. Keep the tablets in their pack, in a cool, dry spot.
