FAQ
Which Cefpodoxime strengths and pack sizes can I order?
Cefpodoxime comes as 100mg and 200mg tablets. Packs run from 30 to 90 tablets for 100mg and from 30 to 180 tablets for 200mg. Larger packs cost less per tablet.
Can I cancel my Cefpodoxime order or track it?
Both. You have 24 hours to cancel, provided nothing has been dispatched, and the tracking page shows where the parcel is after that. It travels in a plain box with no branding. Live chat, in English or Cantonese, is open around the clock.
Which brand names does cefpodoxime have?
Brand names for cefpodoxime include Vantin, Cepodem, Doxcef and Orelox. Cefpodoxime tablets are a pure generic cefpodoxime product and are not any of those brands.
Should cefpodoxime be taken with food?
Yes. Cefpodoxime tablets are absorbed better with a meal, so take each dose with breakfast or dinner. Most courses are one or two tablets a day, about 12 hours apart, and how many days you need depends on the infection.
Can I take cefpodoxime if I am allergic to penicillin?
A past reaction to penicillin matters. Cefpodoxime is a cephalosporin, a related family, and some people allergic to penicillins react to cephalosporins as well. A severe reaction to either is a reason to avoid it.
What is the difference between 100mg and 200mg cefpodoxime tablets?
Only the amount of medicine in each tablet. The 200mg tablet holds twice as much as the 100mg tablet, and the number of tablets you take depends on the infection and how long the course runs.
Is cefpodoxime the same as Vantin?
Vantin is a brand name for cefpodoxime proxetil, the same active ingredient sold here as plain cefpodoxime tablets. Both belong to the cephalosporin group of antibiotics.
About Cefpodoxime
Cefpodoxime 100mg and 200mg tablets
Cefpodoxime is a cephalosporin antibiotic, usually listed on packs as cefpodoxime proxetil. The proxetil part is a coating on the molecule that helps it absorb in the gut; once inside the body it turns into the active drug. This listing offers 100mg and 200mg tablets, with packs from 30 up to 90 tablets of 100mg and up to 180 of 200mg.
What it treats
People search for cefpodoxime when a bacterial infection has settled in the chest, throat, ear, sinuses, skin or urinary tract. It is used for tonsillitis and throat infections, middle-ear infections, pneumonia acquired outside hospital, flare-ups of chronic bronchitis, skin infections and uncomplicated bladder infections. Like all antibiotics, it does nothing for colds or flu.
Bacteria wrap themselves in a wall, and cefpodoxime stops them building it. Without it they lose their shape and cannot multiply.
Taking the tablets
Three days into a course for a chest infection, the cough eases and stopping starts to look tempting. Don't. The tablets go down with a meal, which helps the drug absorb, once every 12 to 24 hours depending on the infection. Finish the pack.
Antacids and acid-reducing tablets, including H2 blockers, lower the amount absorbed, so take them well apart from cefpodoxime. Probenecid does the opposite and raises the level in the blood. Blister strips keep best dry and out of the sun.
Reactions to know about
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain and headache are the usual complaints, and women sometimes get vaginal thrush. Watery or bloody diarrhoea with cramps, which can appear weeks after finishing a course, rash with swelling, or difficulty breathing are serious and need urgent treatment. Cephalosporins are close relatives of the penicillins, and a person who reacted badly to penicillin may react to this one too.
