FAQ
Which Celecoxib strengths and pack sizes can I order?
Celecoxib capsules come in 100mg and 200mg. Pack sizes run from 30 to 360 capsules, with options such as 30, 60, 90, 120, 180 or 360. Larger packs cost less per capsule.
How is Celecoxib delivered to Hong Kong?
Tracked courier gets it to you in 5 to 9 business days, and you can follow it online. Standard airmail is slower, 14 to 21 business days and 30 at most, with no tracking. Either way the parcel is plain.
What are the other names for celecoxib?
Brand names for celecoxib include Celebra, Celebrex and Zycel. Celecoxib capsules are a pure generic celecoxib product and are not any of those brands. Here, celecoxib can also be bought online as generic Celebrex.
What is the usual dose of celecoxib?
Osteoarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis are usually treated with 200mg a day, taken as one capsule or as 100mg twice. For rheumatoid arthritis the usual pattern is 100mg or 200mg twice a day. Swallow the capsules with water.
Can I drink alcohol with celecoxib?
Alcohol and celecoxib both irritate the stomach lining, and drinking heavily while you are on the capsules makes a bleed there more likely. Keeping your drinking light during treatment lowers that chance.
Can I take paracetamol with celecoxib?
Yes. Paracetamol is not an NSAID and works differently, so it does not add to the bleeding and heart concerns that a second NSAID such as ibuprofen brings. The two are often taken together when one alone does not settle the pain.
Does celecoxib make you drowsy?
It can. Dizziness and sleepiness are among the effects some people notice, so see how you react before driving or working with machinery. Headache and heartburn turn up more often than either.
Is celecoxib the same as Celebrex?
They are the same medicine. Celebrex is the brand name and celecoxib is the generic name, and both come as 100mg and 200mg capsules with the same active ingredient.
About Celecoxib
What celecoxib capsules treat
Think of the knee that aches by evening, the hands that are stiff on waking, or the spine that will not loosen. Celecoxib is used for those long-term conditions: osteoarthritis (worn cartilage), rheumatoid arthritis (an immune attack on the joint lining) and ankylosing spondylitis (arthritis of the spine). A one-off problem such as a strain, a tooth extraction, surgery recovery or period cramps can be treated with it as well.
How it works, and how a dose fits your day
Celecoxib is an NSAID, like ibuprofen, but it targets only COX-2, the enzyme that inflamed tissue uses to produce prostaglandins and with them pain and swelling. Because older NSAIDs also shut down COX-1, which helps protect the stomach lining, celecoxib is usually easier on the stomach. Ulcers and bleeding remain possible.
Most people take one capsule once or twice a day, around the same time as another daily habit such as breakfast. Meals do not change how it works.
Side effects worth knowing
The complaints that come up most are heartburn, stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhoea, headache and dizziness, and some people find their ankles or feet puff up. The bigger worry is the heart: celecoxib makes a heart attack or stroke more likely than taking no NSAID, and the risk grows with larger doses over longer stretches. Sudden chest pain, breathlessness, numbness or weakness down one side, or trouble speaking need action straight away. An ulcer or a bleed in the stomach or gut is the other serious risk; upper abdominal pain that will not settle, black tarry stools or blood in vomit all need urgent treatment.
What celecoxib does not mix with
A second NSAID on top — ibuprofen, naproxen, or aspirin above the small daily dose taken for the heart — piles on the same stomach and heart risks. Blood thinners such as warfarin, steroid tablets and antidepressants of the SSRI or SNRI type each raise the chance of a stomach bleed. Celecoxib can also push lithium levels up and work against blood-pressure medicines such as ACE inhibitors and diuretics. Heavy drinking adds to the stomach risk too.
Celecoxib or Celebrex?
Both names are celecoxib, in the same 100mg and 200mg capsules. Celebrex is the original brand name, and celecoxib is the generic name for the same medicine. If you would rather have the branded box, Celebrex is the one to pick.
