FAQ

Which Conjugated Oestrogens strengths and pack sizes can I order?

Conjugated Oestrogens comes as tablets in 0.625mg. You can order packs of 28, 56, 84 or 112 tablets. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

Is Conjugated Oestrogens delivered discreetly to Hong Kong?

Conjugated Oestrogens is sent in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing outside about the contents. Tracked courier takes 5 to 9 business days with online tracking. If a parcel does not arrive within the delivery window, or arrives damaged, it is sent again free; if that is not possible, the order is refunded.

Which brand names does conjugated estrogens have?

A brand name for conjugated estrogens is Premarin. Conjugated estrogens tablets are a pure generic conjugated estrogens product and are not that brand.

How long does conjugated oestrogens take to work for hot flushes?

Hot flushes often start to ease within two to four weeks, but it can take two to three months to feel the full benefit. Bone protection builds more slowly, over months. If nothing changes after several weeks, the dose may need reviewing.

Is conjugated oestrogens the same as Premarin?

Premarin is a brand name for conjugated oestrogens. This page sells conjugated oestrogens 0.625mg tablets under the ingredient name, so the branding differs, but the active ingredient and strength are the same.

Does conjugated oestrogens interact with antibiotics?

Most antibiotics do not affect conjugated oestrogens. Rifampicin and rifabutin, used for tuberculosis, are the exceptions: they speed up how the liver breaks down oestrogens and can make the tablet less effective. Common antibiotics such as amoxicillin, doxycycline and clarithromycin do not have this effect.

Can I take conjugated oestrogens if I have had a blood clot?

Conjugated oestrogens are not usually used by anyone who has had a blood clot in the leg, lung or brain, because they can raise the chance of another clot. The same applies to people with a history of breast cancer or unexplained vaginal bleeding.

Can I drink alcohol while taking conjugated oestrogens?

Alcohol is not known to interact with the 0.625mg tablet. Heavy drinking can make hot flushes and night sweats worse and disturb sleep, so it may help to keep an eye on how much you drink.

About Conjugated Estrogens

What conjugated oestrogens are for

Conjugated oestrogens are a mixture of oestrogens — the main female sex hormone — used to replace what the body makes less of after menopause. The 0.625mg tablet is used for hot flushes and night sweats, for vaginal dryness and irritation, and to slow bone loss that can lead to osteoporosis. Women who have had their ovaries removed and go into menopause suddenly may also take it. It is not a contraceptive. The tablet works by topping up oestrogen levels so tissues that depend on the hormone, such as the lining of the vagina and the bones, get the signal they are used to.

Fitting the tablet into your day

Most people take one tablet at the same time each day — with breakfast or with the evening meal, for example. Swallow it whole with water; food does not change how it works. If you forget a tablet, take it later the same day if you can. If the next one is due soon, leave the missed one out and take the next tablet as normal. Taking two at once is not the way to catch up.

Side effects

Breast tenderness, headache, nausea, bloating and leg cramps are common in the first few weeks and often ease. Spotting or bleeding between periods can happen too. Serious problems are less common but need urgent attention: a blood clot in the leg or lung, a stroke, or a heart attack. Long-term oestrogen-only therapy can slightly raise the risk of breast cancer.

Medicines that change how well it works

Some drugs speed up the liver's breakdown of oestrogens, so the tablet may not work as well. These include rifampicin and rifabutin (for tuberculosis), carbamazepine and phenytoin (for epilepsy), and St John's wort. Oestrogens can also change how warfarin works, so INR checks may be needed more often.

Storage and pack sizes

Keep the tablets below 25°C in their original pack, away from damp. Packs hold 28, 56, 84 or 112 tablets. Do not use them after the expiry date.
