What you will receive
Estrace is the originator brand name, made by Bristol-Myers Squibb. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Estrace.

- The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.
FAQ
Which Estrace strengths and pack quantities are available?
Estrace comes as 1mg or 2mg tablets in packs of 28 to 140. The pack contains generic estradiol, not the original Estrace. Larger packs cost less per tablet.
Can I cancel my Estrace order and track it?
You can cancel your Estrace order within 24 hours if it has not yet been dispatched. Order tracking is on the tracking page. Support answers 24/7 in English and Cantonese by live chat.
What are the alternative names for Estrace and estradiol?
Estrace is a brand name of estradiol, which is also sold as Elleste Solo, Estradot, Estrofem and Estrogel. Here, estradiol can be bought online as generic Estrace. These are generics, not the original brand.
Is Estrace a contraceptive pill?
No. Estradiol by itself does not stop pregnancy. Combined hormonal contraception contains an oestrogen plus a progestin, and it is the progestin that blocks ovulation. Estrace tablets are estradiol alone, so a separate method of contraception is needed if pregnancy is not wanted.
Can I drink alcohol while taking Estrace?
Alcohol does not interfere with estradiol itself. It can, though, set off hot flushes and night sweats in some women, and heavy drinking puts extra strain on the liver, which is where oestrogen is broken down. If your symptoms flare after an evening of drinking, alcohol is a likely reason.
What should I do if I miss a tablet?
Take the missed tablet as soon as you notice, then go back to your usual daily time. Never take two together to catch up; a double dose gives no extra benefit and more chance of side effects such as nausea or headache.
Does Estrace help with vaginal dryness?
Yes. Oral estradiol treats vaginal dryness, itching and soreness as well as hot flushes, though those local symptoms usually take longer to improve than flushes. A vaginal oestrogen works directly on the tissue and is sometimes used instead of, or alongside, tablets.
Can Estrace be taken with other medicines?
Some medicines speed up the liver's breakdown of estradiol, carbamazepine, phenytoin, rifampicin and St John's wort among them, and can leave the tablets working less well. Estradiol also changes how much thyroid hormone the body needs, so a levothyroxine dose that was steady can shift.
About Estrace
What Estrace tablets do
Estrace is a brand name for estradiol, the oestrogen the ovaries produce. Around the menopause, natural levels fall and the body notices: hot flushes, night sweats, and dryness, itching or soreness in the vagina. The tablets top up the oestrogen that has dropped away, and the improvement builds over a few weeks rather than arriving on the first day. Vaginal symptoms often take longer to settle than flushes. Estradiol is also used to slow the bone thinning that speeds up after the menopause.
The 1mg and 2mg tablets
Two strengths are sold, 1mg and 2mg, in packs of 28 to 140 tablets. Estradiol is taken once a day, so pick a moment that already happens every day, whether that is breakfast or the last thing before bed, and take the tablet then with a glass of water. Meals make little difference to how much estradiol you absorb, so there is no need to plan eating around the dose. The estradiol page covers the ingredient in more depth. Keep the pack in a cool, dark place such as a bedside drawer, away from a sunny windowsill or a radiator.
Side effects and risks
Most women who notice anything at all get tender breasts, a headache, nausea, bloating or leg cramps, and these usually fade within a month or two. Light spotting in the early weeks is common too.
Estradiol on its own raises the chance of cancer in the womb lining, and the longer it is taken, the higher that chance. Women who still have a uterus are usually given a progestin alongside estradiol to bring that risk down; women who have had a hysterectomy take estradiol on its own. Estradiol also makes blood clots more likely. A clot in a leg may cause a swollen, painful calf; one that reaches the lungs can bring sudden breathlessness or chest pain, and either needs urgent treatment. Vaginal bleeding that begins months in, or does not settle, is a sign something else is going on.
