What you will receive

Flagyl is the originator brand name, made by Sanofi-Aventis. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Flagyl.

  • The same active ingredient (Metronidazole) at the same strength.
  • The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.

FAQ

Which Flagyl strengths and pack sizes can I order?

Flagyl pages list 200mg and 400mg tablets in packs from 30 up to 360. It is generic metronidazole, not the original Flagyl. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

How do I pay for Flagyl delivered to Hong Kong?

You can pay for Flagyl with Visa, Mastercard or American Express on a secure, encrypted payment page, or with Bitcoin or Ethereum. Card details never reach PockDose servers. Orders ship to Hong Kong in plain, unbranded packaging.

Does Flagyl have other names?

Flagyl is a brand name of metronidazole, which is also sold as MetroCream, Metrogyl, Noritate and Rozex. Here, metronidazole can be bought online as generic Flagyl, and also as metronidazole tablets. These are generics, not the original brand.

Can I take Flagyl for a cold or flu?

No. Metronidazole only works on infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites, and colds and flu come from viruses. Antibiotics do nothing for a viral illness, so the tablets will not shorten it or stop it spreading to anyone else.

How long do I need to take Flagyl?

It depends on the infection. Some are cleared with a single dose, or with two doses in one day, while others need a tablet two or three times a day for several days. Packs of 30 to 360 tablets cover both short and long courses.

Is Flagyl the same as metronidazole?

Yes. Flagyl is a brand name for metronidazole, and the tablets sold here contain the same active ingredient at 200mg and 400mg. What differs is the name printed on the pack and the pack sizes on offer.

How long after my last Flagyl tablet can I drink alcohol?

Leave three days. Metronidazole stays in the body for a while after the final tablet, and alcohol during that window can set off flushing, sickness, a thumping headache and sweating. Three days after the last dose is the usual all-clear.

Does Flagyl have to be taken with food?

No. Food makes no difference to how much metronidazole you absorb, so take the tablet at whatever point in the day suits you. If it leaves you feeling sick, having it alongside breakfast or dinner usually settles that.

About Flagyl

What Flagyl is used for

Flagyl is a brand of metronidazole, an antibiotic that treats infections caused by anaerobic bacteria — germs that live where there is little or no oxygen — and by certain single-celled parasites. That covers dental and gum infections, infected wounds, and some gut and pelvic infections. It is also used for protozoal illnesses such as giardiasis (a gut infection picked up from contaminated water) and trichomoniasis (a sexually transmitted infection). Bacterial vaginosis, a common vaginal infection, is another. The tablets come as 200mg and 400mg.

How it works, and how the course runs

Metronidazole does nothing until it gets inside the organisms it targets. They convert it into a short-lived, reactive form that damages their DNA, so they can no longer multiply and the infection clears. Human cells don't make that conversion, which is why healthy tissue is largely left alone.

Course length follows the infection rather than a fixed rule — a single dose, two doses in one day, or a tablet two or three times daily for several days. Swallow the tablets whole with water, and finish the whole course even after you feel better; stopping early leaves the infection partly treated and gives the bacteria a chance to become resistant. Keep the pack dry and out of sunlight.

Side effects to expect

A metallic taste is the one people notice first — food and drink taste odd for as long as the course lasts. Nausea, an upset stomach, diarrhoea, headache, a dry mouth and a furry tongue are also common, and most of these settle. Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet is uncommon and turns up mainly with longer courses. Swelling of the face, lips or throat, a rash that keeps spreading, or trouble breathing counts as an emergency.

Alcohol, disulfiram and other medicines

Drinking while metronidazole is in your system brings on flushing, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, headache and sweating, often within minutes. Alcohol-containing cough syrups and mouthwashes can do the same, so it is easier to leave alcohol out altogether until the course is over. Disulfiram, used for alcohol dependence, is never taken alongside metronidazole, and at least two weeks need to pass after the last disulfiram dose before metronidazole starts. Metronidazole also strengthens warfarin and similar blood thinners, which raises the chance of bleeding.

Flagyl or plain metronidazole tablets?

Both contain metronidazole at 200mg and 400mg, so the choice comes down to the name on the pack and the pack size you want — 30 tablets or several hundred. Metronidazole is the plain-labelled version sold here, and metronidazole explains the ingredient itself, from what it treats to how it behaves in the body.
