FAQ
Which Imitrex strengths and pack sizes can I order?
Imitrex comes as tablets in 25mg, 50mg and 100mg. Packs range from 10 to 120 tablets for 25mg, and 10 to 60 tablets for 50mg and 100mg. The pack contains generic sumatriptan, not the original Imitrex. Larger packs cost less per tablet.
Can I pay for Imitrex by card or crypto?
For Imitrex, you can pay by Visa, Mastercard or American Express on a secure, encrypted payment page, or by Bitcoin or Ethereum. Card details never reach the shop's servers. Orders can be cancelled within 24 hours if not yet dispatched; support answers 24/7 in English and Cantonese by live chat.
Does Imitrex have other names?
Imitrex is a brand name of sumatriptan, which is also sold as Imigran. Here, sumatriptan can be bought online as generic Imitrex, and also as sumatriptan tablets. These are generics, not the original brand.
Can I take Imitrex for a normal headache?
No — sumatriptan works on migraine attacks and does nothing for ordinary tension headaches, the dull band around the head that most people get. It also cannot head off an attack before it starts, so it is not something to take every day.
Can I drink alcohol with Imitrex?
A drink is not known to interact with sumatriptan, so the occasional glass is unlikely to cause trouble. Two things do matter: alcohol is a common migraine trigger, and it deepens the drowsiness and light-headedness a dose can bring. A long evening of drinking often ends in a headache that the tablet cannot touch.
How many Imitrex tablets can I take in a month?
Aim to keep any migraine tablet to fewer than 10 days a month. Reaching for one more often can leave you with more headaches rather than fewer, because a headache medicine used too often starts to cause the attacks it is meant to treat.
Do 25mg, 50mg and 100mg Imitrex work differently?
The difference is how much sumatriptan each tablet holds. More sumatriptan per tablet can mean more of the tingling, flushing and chest tightness that come with a dose. Many people find the smallest strength that does the job is the one they stay with.
Can I take Imitrex with an SSRI antidepressant?
Sumatriptan and SSRI antidepressants are sometimes taken together, and the combination can push serotonin higher than either medicine does on its own. In rare cases that leads to serotonin syndrome, a build-up of serotonin whose signs include shivering, sweating, a racing pulse, twitching muscles, restlessness and confusion.
About Imitrex
What Imitrex does and does not do
Skip the idea of a daily pill. Imitrex contains sumatriptan, a triptan, and it only helps while a migraine is under way. It shrinks the swollen vessels around the brain and calms the nerves behind the throbbing, which is why nausea and sensitivity to light and noise tend to fade along with the pain. Between attacks it does nothing, so it will not lower how often they come.
At the first sign of pain
You feel the familiar pressure behind one eye, or the lights start to look too bright. That is the moment to take a tablet with water, before the pain peaks. Meals do not matter. If the headache lifts and then returns a couple of hours on, one more tablet may be taken. A dose that has done nothing is not worth repeating the same day. Some people feel drowsy or light-headed afterwards, so wait before driving.
What it can cause
Most complaints are odd rather than alarming: a warm flush, pins and needles, a sense of heat or chill, and a band of tightness across the chest, neck or jaw. Chest pain that grips and will not let go, weakness or deadness on one side of the body, muddled speech, or a swollen face, lips or tongue with noisy breathing are the signs that need urgent treatment.
Medicines to keep apart from it
Another triptan, or an ergot migraine medicine such as ergotamine, needs a clear day between it and a sumatriptan tablet — the two together can squeeze blood vessels harder than either alone. Antidepressants called MAO-A inhibitors, phenelzine and tranylcypromine among them, should not be in the picture at all while sumatriptan is being used. Alcohol is not known to interact with sumatriptan, but a drink can bring on a migraine and add to the drowsiness, so it is easier to skip it until the attack has passed.
Imitrex or plain sumatriptan?
Imitrex is a brand name; the medicine itself is sumatriptan, and the tablets sold here come as 25mg, 50mg and 100mg. Plain Sumatriptan tablets hold the same ingredient in the same three strengths, so the choice comes down to the name on the box and the pack size you prefer. Whichever you pick, keep the foil strips in a dry spot away from radiators and windowsills, where damp and heat cannot get at them.
