What you will receive

Lasix is the originator brand name, made by Sanofi. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Lasix.

  • The same active ingredient (Furosemide) at the same strength.
  • The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.

FAQ

Which strengths and pack sizes of generic Lasix can I order?

Generic Lasix tablets come in 40mg and 100mg strengths. Packs range from 20 to 360 tablets; 40mg starts at 30 tablets. The pack contains generic furosemide, not the original Lasix. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

How is Lasix delivered to Hong Kong?

For Lasix, tracked courier takes 5 to 9 business days with online tracking. Very large orders over 120 units may be split into several parcels. Support answers 24/7 in English and Cantonese by live chat, and order tracking is on the tracking page.

How long does a Lasix tablet work for?

Urine output picks up within about an hour of a dose and the effect is largely over after six hours, which is why a morning dose suits most people. How much urine is passed, and how quickly the effect fades, depends on the amount taken and on kidney function.

Can I drink alcohol with Lasix?

Alcohol adds to the drop in blood pressure that furosemide causes, so dizziness, light-headedness and a racing heartbeat are more likely after a drink. This is most noticeable in the first days of treatment.

Can I take Lasix with ibuprofen?

Anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen, naproxen and aspirin can work against furosemide. They make the kidneys hold on to more salt and water, so the diuretic clears less fluid, and they can affect kidney function themselves. Aspirin and similar salicylates behave the same way.

Is Lasix the same as furosemide?

Yes. Lasix is a brand name for furosemide, and furosemide is the active ingredient in the tablet. The Furosemide listing on this site is the same medicine sold under its ingredient name, in the same 40mg and 100mg tablets — the difference is the name on the pack.

Is 100mg Lasix stronger than the 40mg tablet?

The number is the amount of furosemide in the tablet, so one 100mg tablet holds two and a half times as much as a 40mg one. A 100mg tablet suits a larger daily amount without taking several tablets at once.

About Lasix

A water tablet that shifts fluid

Ankles that swell by evening, legs that feel heavy, breathlessness from fluid on the lungs: furosemide is used for this kind of fluid build-up (oedema), which usually traces back to the heart, liver or kidneys. It belongs to the diuretics, often called water tablets. Each day the kidneys filter out a large volume of salt and water and take most of it back; furosemide interrupts that recovery, so extra sodium and water leave as urine. Less fluid means less swelling and less volume for the heart to pump, which is also why the same tablet is used for high blood pressure.

How the tablets are taken

Furosemide is usually taken once or twice a day, and the first tablet goes down at breakfast. Urine output climbs within about an hour and a dose keeps working for roughly six, so a tablet swallowed in the evening tends to mean getting up in the night. For swelling, some people take it every day and others only on certain days of the week; for blood pressure, a fixed time each day keeps the effect even. Food makes little difference, so before or after a meal both work.

What you may notice

More trips to the toilet are the medicine working. Standing up quickly can bring a moment of light-headedness in the first days, and alcohol makes that worse. Headache, blurred vision, constipation or loose stools and a skin that burns more easily in the sun are also reported. Furosemide flushes potassium out with the urine, and when levels drop the signs are muscle cramps, unusual tiredness or an uneven heartbeat. A rash that spreads quickly, or swelling around the mouth and throat with trouble breathing, needs urgent treatment.

Lasix or furosemide?

Lasix is the brand name; furosemide is the ingredient, and the two names describe the same tablet. We also stock Furosemide under its ingredient name, in the same 40mg and 100mg strengths and the same tablet form. Packs of both run from 20 tablets up to 360. Pick the name you recognise, or the pack size that fits how long you expect to need them.
