What you will receive

Norvasc is the originator brand name, made by Pfizer. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Norvasc.

  • The same active ingredient (Amlodipine) at the same strength.
  • The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.

FAQ

Which Norvasc strengths and pack sizes can I order?

Norvasc comes as tablets in 2.5mg, 5mg and 10mg strengths. Pack sizes range from 10 to 360 tablets. The pack contains generic amlodipine, not the original Norvasc. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

How is Norvasc delivered to Hong Kong?

You can cancel a Norvasc order within 24 hours if it has not yet been dispatched. Track your order on the tracking page, and support answers 24/7 in English and Cantonese by live chat. Every order ships in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing outside about the contents.

What other names is amlodipine sold under?

Norvasc is a brand name of amlodipine, which is also sold as Amlodac, Amlokind, Amlong and Istin. Here, amlodipine can be bought online as generic Norvasc. These are generics, not the original brand.

Is Norvasc the same as Amlodipine?

Yes, they are the same product: generic amlodipine tablets, with the same strengths and packs. Both names are ordered on this Norvasc page.

How long does amlodipine take to work?

Amlodipine builds up slowly. The full effect develops over about a week of daily tablets, because amlodipine lingers in the body for days and its level climbs a little with each tablet before it levels off.

Why does amlodipine make my ankles swell?

Amlodipine widens the small arteries more than the veins, so fluid is pushed out into the tissue at the ankles and feet. It is a well-known side effect and tends to be more common at higher strengths.

Can I drink alcohol with amlodipine?

A glass now and then is generally fine, but alcohol also widens blood vessels and can add to the drop in pressure, so dizziness on standing is more likely, especially in the first days or after a dose increase.

Can amlodipine be taken with grapefruit?

Amlodipine is not one of the medicines where grapefruit is a firm no. In one label study, a glass of grapefruit juice made no significant difference to its levels, unlike the effect on atorvastatin or simvastatin.

About Norvasc

Norvasc: amlodipine tablets, 2.5mg, 5mg and 10mg

Norvasc is amlodipine, one of the most widely used blood pressure tablets in the world, sold here as generic tablets in three strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg and 10mg tablets. It is used for high blood pressure (hypertension) and for angina, the tight, aching chest pain that comes when the heart muscle is short of blood. It also treats coronary artery disease, where the arteries feeding the heart have narrowed.

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. Calcium has to enter the muscle cells in an artery wall for the wall to tighten. Amlodipine blocks part of that entry, the vessels stay relaxed and wider, and blood passes through them with less resistance. The heart does not have to push as hard, and pressure drops.

Taking amlodipine

One tablet once a day, at about the same time, with or without food. Its effect builds gradually over the first week or so rather than arriving at once. For angina it controls the pain when taken regularly, but it does not stop an attack once it has begun. Keep the tablets at room temperature, away from light, heat and damp.

What to expect

The effect people hear about most is swelling of the ankles and feet. Flushing, dizziness, tiredness, drowsiness, nausea and stomach ache also turn up, and palpitations can happen early on. Chest pain that gets worse, a rapid, pounding or irregular heartbeat, or fainting needs urgent treatment.

Amlodipine adds to the effect of other blood pressure tablets, so mixing them can make dizziness more noticeable when standing up. Simvastatin levels rise when it is taken with amlodipine, so that statin is kept to a lower strength.
