What you will receive
Terramycin is the originator brand name, made by Pfizer. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Terramycin.
- The same active ingredient (Oxytetracycline) at the same strength.
- The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.
FAQ
What pack sizes does Terramycin come in?
Terramycin 250mg capsules come in packs of 60 or 90. The pack contains generic oxytetracycline, not the original Terramycin. Each page shows the price per capsule in Hong Kong dollars, and the larger 90 capsule pack works out lower per capsule than the 60 capsule pack.
How can I pay for Terramycin and get it to Hong Kong?
By card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) on an encrypted page that keeps your card details off our servers, or with Bitcoin or Ethereum. It then ships to Hong Kong in a plain box, by tracked courier or standard airmail.
Is Terramycin the same as oxytetracycline?
Yes. Terramycin is a brand name for oxytetracycline, and the capsules sold here are generic oxytetracycline 250mg. The active ingredient is the same one the branded original was built around; only the name and the packaging differ.
Can I drink milk while taking Terramycin?
Keep milk, yoghurt, cheese and ice cream a couple of hours away from your capsule. Calcium binds oxytetracycline in the gut, so a dose swallowed with a glass of milk delivers less antibiotic than one taken with water. Water is the drink to use.
Does Terramycin help with acne?
Oxytetracycline belongs to the tetracycline family, which is used for acne: it reduces the bacteria inside blocked pores and calms the inflammation around them. Acne clears slowly, so treatment of this kind is measured in months rather than days.
Do Terramycin capsules need to be kept in the fridge?
No. A normal room is fine, out of direct sun and away from the hob or a radiator. Damp and heat are what shorten their shelf life, so choose a spot that stays cool and dry.
About Terramycin
What Terramycin is used for
Terramycin is sold here as generic oxytetracycline, a tetracycline antibiotic for infections caused by bacteria. It stops bacteria building the proteins they need to grow and multiply, which gives the body's defences room to clear the infection. Tetracyclines cover a broad range of bacterial infections, and the same family is used for acne and for some infections carried by ticks and mites. Colds, flu and other viral illnesses do not respond to it.
The capsules hold 250mg and come in packs of 60 or 90.
How to take the capsules
Swallow each one whole with a full glass of water. Food, and dairy in particular, reduces how much oxytetracycline your body absorbs, so take a capsule at least an hour before a meal or two hours after one, and keep milk, cheese and yoghurt away from the dose. Doses are usually spread through the day, two to four times. Taking them at the same times daily makes it easier to keep track.
What interferes with a dose
Indigestion remedies, calcium and zinc supplements and magnesium-containing laxatives belong 6 hours before or 2 hours after a capsule; iron tablets and iron-containing multivitamins, 4 hours before or 2 hours after.
Side effects
The usual complaints are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, a sore throat and itching around the anus or vagina. Occasionally the tongue looks swollen, black or hairy. Sun is harder on the skin during a course, so sunscreen and covering clothes are worth having outdoors. A rash, hives, or stiff and swollen joints are serious, and swelling of the face, lips or tongue with trouble breathing is an emergency. A headache with blurred or double vision can signal raised pressure inside the head, which is rare with tetracyclines.
Children under eight are kept off these antibiotics because developing teeth can be stained for life, and pregnancy is avoided because of the risk to the baby.
