FAQ

Which Thalix strengths and pack sizes can I order?

You can order Thalix 50mg and 100mg capsules in packs of 30, 60, 90 or 120 capsules. Larger packs cost less per capsule.

How discreet is Thalix delivery to Hong Kong?

Thalix is sent in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing on the outside about the contents. Tracked courier takes 5 to 9 business days with online tracking. Standard airmail takes 14 to 21 business days, or 30 at most, and is untracked.

Is Thalix the same as thalidomide?

Yes — Thalix is a brand name for thalidomide, and nothing else active goes into the capsule. What changes between the two options on this page is the strength: 50mg or 100mg. In multiple myeloma the daily amount is built from capsules, so it can be two of the 100mg size or four of the 50mg.

Should Thalix be taken at night?

Evening suits most people, because the sleepiness that follows a capsule arrives within an hour or two and the heaviest part of it lands while you are asleep. Take it in the morning and the drowsiness comes with you through the day.

Can I drink alcohol with Thalix?

Alcohol stacks on top of the drowsiness and dizziness thalidomide already brings, and a single drink can leave you much sleepier than you would expect. Unsteadiness on your feet is more likely when the two are taken together.

Does Thalix cause tingling in the hands and feet?

It can, and it is the effect most worth catching early. Thalidomide is a known cause of peripheral neuropathy — numbness, tingling, burning or weakness that usually begins in the toes and fingers. It develops over months of treatment, and some of the numbness can stay even after treatment ends.

About Thalix

What the capsules are for

Thalix is a brand of thalidomide. The capsule does two things at once — it damps down parts of the immune response that have become overactive, and it gets in the way of the new blood vessels that a growing tumour relies on. That combination puts it to work in multiple myeloma, a cancer that collects in the bone marrow, where it is used alongside melphalan and prednisone (chemotherapy plus a steroid) in adults over 65, or in adults who are not candidates for high-dose treatment. It also settles erythema nodosum leprosum, the tender lumps and inflamed skin that can appear in leprosy.

How it is taken

Capsules are swallowed whole with water. For myeloma the usual amount is two 100mg capsules a day, and treatment goes in cycles of about six weeks rather than a short fixed course. Most people take them in the evening, since drowsiness arrives within an hour or two and the worst of it passes in sleep. For the leprosy skin reaction the amount is set separately and brought down as the flare settles.

What you may notice

Sleepiness is what almost everyone notices first. Dry mouth, constipation, dizziness and tiredness turn up often as well, and some people develop a rash. Blood counts can drop during treatment, which shows up as unusual fatigue, breathlessness when you exert yourself, or bruising more easily than before.

Effects worth taking seriously

Clots in the veins of the legs or lungs are the risk to keep in mind. A calf that is swollen or sore on one side, a sudden shortness of breath, or chest pain — any of these needs care straight away. Nerve damage — peripheral neuropathy — builds slowly, showing first as tingling, numbness or burning in the toes and fingers, and it may not fully go away after the capsules stop. Thalidomide is also a powerful cause of birth defects and is not used in pregnancy.

Thalix 50mg and 100mg

A day's myeloma dose of two 100mg capsules is the case the 100mg strength is built around. The 50mg capsule is there for adjusting a dose in smaller steps. Both are hard capsules with thalidomide as the only active ingredient. The thalidomide page goes into the ingredient in more depth.
