What you will receive

Trandate is the originator brand name, made by Prometheus Laboratories. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Trandate.

  • The same active ingredient (Labetalol) at the same strength.
  • The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.

FAQ

Which Trandate strengths and pack sizes can I order?

Trandate tablets come as 50mg, 100mg and 200mg. Packs hold 30, 60, 90, 120 or 180 tablets. The pack contains generic labetalol, not the original Trandate. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

How is Trandate delivered to Hong Kong?

Two ways. Tracked courier arrives in 5 to 9 business days and can be followed online; standard airmail takes 14 to 21 business days, 30 at the outside, with no tracking. Parcels are plain, and a very large order may come in more than one box.

What are the alternative names for Trandate and labetalol?

Trandate and Normodyne are brand names of labetalol. Here, labetalol can be bought online as generic Trandate. These are generics, not the original brand.

Can I drink alcohol while taking Trandate?

Alcohol and labetalol both lower blood pressure, so together they can make you dizzy, mostly in the first weeks. One drink with food is rarely an issue, but after a heavy evening getting up from a chair may leave you unsteady. If drinking makes you feel faint, skip it.

What happens if I stop taking Trandate suddenly?

Pressure can rebound sharply, and chest pain or a racing, uneven heartbeat is possible. That is why the dose is brought down in steps over days or weeks. Running out is a common cause of a sudden stop, so order the next pack before the last tablets are gone.

Can I take ibuprofen with Trandate?

Paracetamol does not interfere with labetalol, but ibuprofen and similar anti-inflammatory painkillers can nudge blood pressure back up and work against the tablets. That matters most when they are taken regularly for a bad back or sore joints rather than once in a while.

How should I store Trandate tablets?

Heat and sun are what tablets dislike. An indoor cupboard or drawer is fine, a glovebox or a sunny windowsill is not, and the cap should be screwed back on tightly after each use. A weekly pill box is optional, handy only if it helps you remember.

What is the difference between Trandate 50mg, 100mg and 200mg?

The figure is the amount of labetalol in each tablet, so 200mg is four times 50mg. Smaller tablets let a dose go up in small steps, while larger ones mean fewer tablets to swallow for the same daily total.

About Trandate

What Trandate tablets are for

Trandate tablets hold labetalol, which lowers blood pressure in two ways at once. As an alpha blocker it loosens the muscle in artery walls, and as a beta blocker it slows the heart and softens each beat. Because the vessels are opened as well, the pulse tends not to speed up in response, which can happen with a beta blocker used alone.

Beyond blood pressure, labetalol is used for angina (chest pain that comes on when the heart's own blood supply falls short) and for high blood pressure in pregnancy. It controls the problem without curing it, so most people take it daily for years, and a sudden stop is the one thing to avoid: pressure can climb back and the heart can race or beat irregularly.

Starting low and building up

Treatment begins with a small dose that is raised in steps, taken two or three times a day with the doses spread evenly across the hours you are awake. During the first days, getting up fast can leave you light-headed or briefly faint, and sitting on the edge of the bed for a moment before you stand takes the edge off that.

Side effects

Dizziness leads the list, followed by tiredness, headache, nausea, constipation, wind and a tingling scalp; most of it eases after the first weeks.

Breathlessness, swollen feet or lower legs, sudden weight gain, chest pain, or a rapid, pounding or irregular heartbeat need urgent treatment. Yellow skin or eyes with tenderness under the right ribs points to the liver and should not be waited out.

Interactions worth knowing

Two things change how labetalol behaves. Cimetidine, the over-the-counter heartburn remedy, pushes its levels up. And labetalol can blunt the warning signs of a hypo, the racing heart and shakiness, which matters if you have diabetes.
