What you will receive

Arimidex is the originator brand name, made by AstraZeneca. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Arimidex.

FAQ

Which Arimidex pack sizes can I order?

Arimidex comes as 1mg tablets in packs of 14, 28, 42 or 56. It is generic anastrozole, not the original Arimidex. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

How is Arimidex delivered to Hong Kong?

Arimidex tablets can go by tracked courier in 5 to 9 business days with online tracking, or by standard airmail in 14 to 21 business days, untracked. Every parcel is plain and unbranded. Very large orders over 120 units may be split into several parcels.

What other names is anastrozole sold under?

Arimidex is a brand name of anastrozole. Here, anastrozole can be bought online as generic Arimidex, and also as Armotraz. These are generics, not the original brand.

Is Arimidex the same as Anastrozole?

Yes. Anastrozole is the same generic anastrozole tablets in the same strengths, and PockDose now lists it here under the name Arimidex.

Is generic Arimidex the same as anastrozole?

Yes. Arimidex is simply the brand name for anastrozole, and a generic Arimidex tablet contains the same ingredient in the same 1mg amount. Armotraz is the other 1mg anastrozole tablet in the shop.

How long do people stay on Arimidex?

Five years is the usual length of treatment after breast cancer surgery, and some people continue for longer. It is taken every day without breaks, so each pack of 14, 28, 42 or 56 tablets covers that many days.

Can I take Arimidex before menopause?

No. Before the menopause the ovaries still make most of the body's oestrogen, and anastrozole does not stop that, so Arimidex is licensed for women after the menopause.

Is Arimidex the same as tamoxifen?

No. Tamoxifen blocks oestrogen receptors on cancer cells, while Arimidex lowers the amount of oestrogen the body produces. They are different medicines, and tamoxifen should not be taken at the same time as anastrozole.

About Arimidex

What Arimidex is used for

Arimidex is the brand name of anastrozole, and the tablet sold here is a generic, 1mg. It is used in women who have been through the menopause and have hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, meaning the tumour cells carry receptors that oestrogen switches on. It is given after surgery to lower the chance of early breast cancer returning, and for cancer that has already spread.

How anastrozole works

After the menopause the ovaries have stopped making much oestrogen. The body keeps a small supply going by converting androgens into oestrogen in fat and other tissues, using an enzyme called aromatase. Anastrozole blocks that enzyme (it is a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor), oestrogen levels drop, and cancer cells that feed on oestrogen have less to grow on. That is a different route from tamoxifen, which leaves oestrogen levels alone and blocks the receptors instead.

Taking Arimidex

One 1mg tablet once a day, at about the same time each day, swallowed whole with water, with or without food. Treatment commonly runs for around five years and sometimes longer, so a steady daily habit matters more than anything else. Store the tablets at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. It is not for use before the menopause or in pregnancy.

Side effects and what to avoid alongside it

Hot flushes, joint pain and stiffness, tiredness, weakness, headache, nausea, low mood, vaginal dryness and thinning hair are the most reported. Because bones thin when oestrogen is lowered, fractures are a longer-term risk. Chest pain, a severe blistering skin reaction, or yellow skin and eyes are signs of a serious reaction.

Anything containing oestrogen, such as hormone replacement therapy or the combined contraceptive pill, works against anastrozole. Tamoxifen should not be taken with it either.

Arimidex beside other anastrozole listings

Arimidex (also sold as anastrozole) and Armotraz are the same 1mg tablets under different names, so the choice between them is about the name on the pack. More cancer treatments are in the oncology range, and women's health holds the wider group of products for women.
