FAQ

Which atorvastatin strengths can I order?

Atorvastatin tablets come in 10mg, 20mg, 40mg and 80mg, in packs from 10 to 360 tablets. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

How is a large atorvastatin order delivered?

You can choose tracked courier at 5 to 9 business days with online tracking, or standard airmail at 14 to 21 business days, up to 30, which is untracked. Very large orders over 120 units may be split into several parcels, all in plain, unbranded packaging.

Which brand names does atorvastatin have?

Brand names for atorvastatin include Lipitor, Sortis, Torvast, Atocor, Atorlip and Atorva. Atorvastatin tablets are a pure generic atorvastatin product and are not any of those brands. Here, atorvastatin can also be bought online as generic Lipitor.

Which atorvastatin strength is the strongest?

The 80mg tablet is the highest atorvastatin strength on PockDose. It is only on this listing, since generic Lipitor stops at 40mg. The 10mg, 20mg and 40mg tablets are the lower steps of the same medicine.

Can I take atorvastatin and amlodipine together?

Yes, the two are very commonly taken together, one for cholesterol and one for blood pressure, and combination tablets of the pair exist. Amlodipine raises atorvastatin levels only slightly.

Does atorvastatin cause muscle pain?

It can. Mild aching is fairly common; severe, unexplained pain or weakness, especially with dark urine, is rare but important because it may point to muscle breakdown. Taking too much grapefruit juice or heavy drinking raises the chance.

How long do I take atorvastatin for?

Usually long term. Atorvastatin keeps LDL cholesterol down only while it is being taken, and levels tend to climb back after it is stopped, which is why it is taken daily rather than in short courses.

About Atorvastatin

Atorvastatin 10mg to 80mg tablets

This listing is atorvastatin under its own name, as tablets in four strengths: 10mg, 20mg, 40mg and 80mg. It is the only atorvastatin listing that includes the 80mg tablet, so it is the place to look if you need the whole range in one product.

What atorvastatin is used for

Atorvastatin is a statin. Its main job is lowering LDL cholesterol and the other blood fats that go with it, in adults whose levels stay high despite changes to diet. That includes high cholesterol that runs in families (familial hypercholesterolaemia) and mixed patterns where triglycerides are raised as well. It is also used to lower the chance of a first or repeat heart attack or stroke in people with other risk factors, such as diabetes or existing heart disease.

It does this by slowing the enzyme the liver uses to make cholesterol. With less made internally, the liver takes up more LDL from the blood, and blood levels fall.

Taking atorvastatin

One tablet, once a day, with or without a meal, at about the same time each day. Because high cholesterol has no symptoms, the tablets are meant to be kept up for the long term rather than stopped when a person feels fine. A forgotten tablet is simply skipped, and the next one is taken as usual. Store the pack at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.

Effects, cautions and things to avoid

Most people notice little. When something does show up it tends to be diarrhoea, heartburn, gas or aching joints. Muscle pain and weakness matter more: severe pain with fever or dark urine is a reason for urgent treatment, as are yellow skin or eyes. Atorvastatin should not be taken in pregnancy, while breastfeeding or with active liver disease.

Grapefruit juice in large quantities, cimetidine, niacin and some antibiotics and antifungals can change atorvastatin levels, and more than two alcoholic drinks a day increases the risk of side effects.

Atorvastatin and the Lipitor listing

If you are comparing the two, Lipitor is the same ingredient in 10mg, 20mg and 40mg tablets, so the 80mg tablet is the practical difference between the listings. The atorvastatin ingredient page sets out both and how atorvastatin sits among the other statins.
