FAQ
What pack sizes of Budesonide Caps can I order?
Budesonide Caps come as 3mg capsules, in packs of 30, 60, 90, 120 or 180 capsules. This is generic budesonide, not a branded product. Larger packs cost less per capsule.
How is Budesonide Caps delivery handled for Hong Kong?
Budesonide Caps ship by tracked courier in 5 to 9 business days with online tracking, or by standard airmail in 14 to 21 business days, untracked. Every parcel arrives in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing outside about the contents. Support answers 24/7 in English and Cantonese by live chat.
What are the other names for budesonide?
Brand names for budesonide include Pulmicort, Rhinocort, Cortiment, Entocort and Uceris. Budesonide caps capsules are a pure generic budesonide product and are not any of those brands. Here, budesonide can also be bought online as generic Pulmicort, generic Rhinocort and budesonide inhaler.
What is the difference between Budesonide Caps and a budesonide inhaler?
The capsules are swallowed and release budesonide lower down the gut, which is where it is needed for Crohn's disease and microscopic colitis. A budesonide inhaler sends the same medicine to the airways for asthma, at strengths measured in micrograms rather than milligrams.
Can I drink grapefruit juice while taking Budesonide Caps?
Grapefruit juice slows the enzyme that clears budesonide, so more of the medicine stays in the blood than intended. Grapefruit itself does the same. It is simplest to leave both out for the length of the course.
How long does a course of Budesonide Caps last?
For Crohn's disease a course usually runs for up to about eight weeks, and microscopic colitis is treated over a similar stretch. The aim is the shortest course that settles the inflammation, so longer treatment is only used when it is clearly needed.
Do Budesonide Caps have to be swallowed whole?
Yes. The coating decides where in the gut the budesonide is released, so a capsule that is chewed, crushed or opened lets the dose out too early. Take it with a glass of water; food does not change how it works.
Does Budesonide Caps affect the rest of the body like prednisolone?
Part of each dose does reach the bloodstream, so steroid effects are possible, but they tend to be milder than with prednisolone because most of the budesonide acts in the gut wall. Long courses can still bring a rounder face, easy bruising or raised blood sugar.
About Budesonide Caps
What Budesonide Caps are for
Budesonide Caps hold 3mg of budesonide, a corticosteroid that calms inflammation. They are used for mild to moderate Crohn's disease that affects the ileum — the last stretch of the small intestine — and the ascending colon, the first part of the large bowel. They are also used for microscopic colitis, an inflammation of the bowel lining that causes watery diarrhoea. Budesonide also comes as inhalers and nasal sprays, but those go to the airways and the nose, not the gut. budesonide
Why the capsule is coated
The coating is the whole point of this form. It holds the medicine back through the stomach and lets it go further down, so most of the dose lands where the inflammation is. Less budesonide reaches the rest of the body than with prednisolone-type steroids, which is why this form is often picked when gut inflammation needs settling without the full effects of an ordinary steroid.
Taking the capsules
A course is usually short — up to about eight weeks for Crohn's disease. Dosing is either one dose in the morning or 3mg three times a day, depending on what is being treated. Swallow each capsule whole with water; chewing or opening it releases the medicine too early. Food makes no real difference, so take it with a meal or on an empty stomach, whichever is easier to keep track of. If a capsule is missed, take the next one at the usual time and do not double up. Keep the capsules in their original container, out of the heat.
Side effects
Plenty of people finish a course with nothing worse than a headache or an upset stomach. Nausea, stomach pain, bloating and tiredness are the other usual ones, and a sore throat or chest infection sometimes follows. The capsule keeps most of the budesonide in the gut, but some is absorbed, and on longer courses that can show as a rounder face, easy bruising, higher blood sugar, low mood or thinning bones. A rash with swelling of the face, lips or throat, or difficulty breathing, is a severe allergic reaction and needs urgent treatment.
Budesonide in other forms
The same ingredient appears here as Budesonide Inhaler and Pulmicort, inhalers in 100/200mcg for asthma, and Rhinocort, a nasal spray in 100mcg for allergic rhinitis and seasonal allergies. Each one is aimed at a different part of the body, and the strengths are measured on different scales — micrograms in the inhaler, milligrams in the capsule.
