FAQ
Which Cipro strengths and pack sizes can I order?
Cipro tablets come as generic ciprofloxacin in 250mg, 500mg, 750mg and 1000mg. Pack sizes vary by strength, from 10 to 360 tablets. This is generic ciprofloxacin, not the original Cipro. Larger packs cost less per tablet.
How can I pay for Cipro delivery to Hong Kong?
You can pay for Cipro with Visa, Mastercard or American Express on a secure, encrypted payment page, or Bitcoin/Ethereum. Card details never reach the shop's servers. Orders can be cancelled within 24 hours if not yet dispatched.
What is another name for ciprofloxacin?
Cipro and Ciloxan are brand names of ciprofloxacin, which is also sold as Cifran, Ciprobay, Ciproxina and Zoxan. Here, ciprofloxacin can be bought online as generic Cipro, and also as generic Ciloxan and ciprofloxacin tablets. These are generics, not the original brand.
How long does a course of Cipro last?
Course length is matched to the infection: a simple bladder infection clears with a short course, while kidney, bone or deep tissue infections are treated for several weeks. Finish the whole course even when symptoms settle after a few days, so the infection is fully cleared.
Can I drink alcohol with Cipro?
Alcohol does not stop ciprofloxacin from working, but it can add to the dizziness, drowsiness and lightheadedness that some people get on this antibiotic. If you do drink, keep it light, and take care with driving or cycling until you know how the tablets affect you.
Should I take Cipro with food?
Either way works, since the tablets are absorbed whether or not you have eaten. If ciprofloxacin upsets your stomach, taking your dose with a meal often helps. Just avoid taking it with a glass of milk or calcium-fortified juice on its own, because the calcium reduces absorption.
What is the difference between Cipro and Ciloxan?
They hold the same medicine, ciprofloxacin, in different forms. Ciloxan is a 0.3% eye drop for bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye); Cipro is a tablet, in strengths from 250mg to 1000mg, for infections in the urinary tract, chest, skin, gut and bones. Which one applies depends on where the infection is.
About Cipro
What Cipro tablets are for
Cipro on this page is generic ciprofloxacin in tablet form, sold in 250mg, 500mg, 750mg and 1000mg strengths, with packs from 10 to 360 tablets. Ciprofloxacin belongs to the fluoroquinolone group of antibiotics and treats infections caused by bacteria: urinary tract infections most often, but also chest infections, skin and soft tissue infections, some gut infections, and bone and joint infections. Viral illnesses such as colds and flu do not respond to it.
Bacteria need two particular enzymes to copy and repair their DNA. Ciprofloxacin blocks both. Unable to copy themselves, the bacteria stop multiplying and the infection clears.
Taking the tablets
A dose is usually taken once or twice a day, at roughly the same times each day, with a meal or between meals, and swallowed with water. How long you take it for depends on the infection, from a short course for a simple bladder infection to several weeks for a bone or deep tissue infection.
Antacids and indigestion remedies, and supplements containing calcium, magnesium, aluminium, iron or zinc, bind ciprofloxacin in the gut and cut how much of it reaches the bloodstream. Leave a gap of a couple of hours between those products and your dose. Milk or calcium-fortified juice drunk on its own does the same thing, though having them as part of a meal is fine.
Side effects to expect, and ones to watch
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, headache, dizziness, taste changes and a rash are the usual complaints, and most pass as the course goes on. Antibiotics can also bring on thrush.
Tendon problems are uncommon but serious: pain, swelling or stiffness around the ankle, shoulder or hand, with a higher chance in older people and in anyone taking steroid tablets. Numbness, tingling, burning or weakness in the arms and legs can start early and sometimes persists after the tablets stop. Some people get confusion, mood or sleep changes, or a seizure. A tendon that snaps or swells suddenly needs urgent treatment, and so does numbness that is spreading. Rash with swelling of the face, lips or throat, or difficulty breathing, is an emergency.
Store the tablets in their original pack, somewhere dry and away from direct sun.
Cipro or Ciloxan?
Both hold ciprofloxacin, but they are made for different jobs. Ciloxan is a 0.3% eye drop used for bacterial conjunctivitis (the eye infection often called pink eye). Cipro is the tablet form, for infections elsewhere in the body, and it comes in a wider range of strengths. The ciprofloxacin page sets out both.
