FAQ

What pack sizes of Clomiphene tablets are there?

Clomiphene tablets come in 25mg, 50mg and 100mg. The 25mg and 50mg packs hold 30 to 360 tablets, and the 100mg packs hold 30 to 180. Each page shows the price per tablet in Hong Kong dollars, and the largest packs bring the price per tablet down.

How discreet is a Clomiphene parcel to Hong Kong?

Every Clomiphene order ships in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing on the outside about the contents. Delivery is by tracked courier in 5 to 9 business days with online tracking, or standard airmail in 14 to 21 business days, untracked.

What are the other names for clomiphene?

Brand names for clomiphene include Clomid, Serophene and Siphene. Clomiphene tablets are a pure generic clomiphene product and are not any of those brands. Here, clomiphene can also be bought online as generic Clomid.

What strength of clomiphene do you start on?

50mg daily for the five days is the usual first course. A gentler start on 25mg is possible, and 100mg is the step up if a lower strength has not produced ovulation. All three strengths are the same drug; only the amount changes.

How long does clomiphene take to work?

Expect ovulation about a week after the last tablet, not during the course. The follicle needs those days to ripen once the five days of tablets are over. A twinge on one side of the lower pelvis can mark the moment, though plenty of women feel nothing at all.

Can clomiphene cause twins?

Yes, it can. Clomiphene pushes follicles to ripen, and sometimes two develop in the same cycle, so twins turn up more often than without treatment. Most pregnancies after clomiphene are still single babies.

Why is clomiphene limited to six cycles?

Using it for longer has been linked to a higher risk of ovarian cancer, which is why courses stop at about six. One month of tablets counts as one cycle, so a running tally helps.

Is clomiphene the same as letrozole?

No. Clomiphene occupies oestrogen receptors in the brain, which prompts the ovaries to ripen a follicle. Letrozole is an aromatase inhibitor, a medicine that lowers how much oestrogen the body makes, and it is the one sold here as Femara for breast cancer after the menopause.

About Clomiphene

Who clomiphene is for

Picture a woman whose periods have stopped, or turn up at random intervals. Often the cause is PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome): the ovaries carry plenty of small follicles, but none grows large enough to open and release an egg. Clomiphene is the tablet aimed at that situation, and it works through the brain rather than on the ovary itself.

What it does in the body

Clomiphene sits on oestrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, the part of the brain that sets the hormone pace. The brain reads this as too little oestrogen and tells the pituitary to send out more follicle-stimulating and luteinising hormone. A follicle ripens. The oestrogen it makes then triggers the surge that releases the egg.

Running the five-day course

Take one tablet a day for five days, starting around day five of the cycle, counting the first day of bleeding as day one. Pick a time of day and stick to it. If no egg is released, the course can be repeated the next month; about six courses is the usual limit.

Clomiphene is not used in pregnancy, liver disease, bleeding from the vagina with no known cause, or an ovarian cyst that is not part of PCOS. The tablets come in 25mg, 50mg and 100mg.

Side effects and warning signs

Hot flushes, nausea, vomiting, headache, tender breasts and spotting between periods are what women mention most. Vision can blur during a course; if it does, leave night driving and close work in dim light until it clears.

The serious one is an over-response of the ovaries, which is uncommon. Sharp pain low in the belly, a swollen abdomen, quick weight gain, breathlessness, or eyesight that stays blurred, doubles or shows dots and flashes all call for urgent treatment. Twins, and occasionally more, are likelier than in natural conception.

Clomiphene or Clomid?

Clomid is the older brand name for the same medicine, and the tablets on this page carry the ingredient name. Both listings come in 25mg, 50mg and 100mg, so the real choice is pack size and price per tablet. More packs of the same ingredient are on the clomiphene page.
