What you will receive

Contractubex is the originator brand name, made by Merz Pharmaceuticals. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Contractubex.

  • The same active ingredient (Allantoin / Heparin / Extractum Cepae) at the same strength.
  • The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.

FAQ

Which pack sizes of generic Contractubex can I order?

Generic Contractubex comes as 15g tubes in packs of 1, 2 or 4. It is generic allantoin, heparin and extractum cepae, not the original Contractubex. Larger packs cost less per tube.

How is generic Contractubex delivered to Hong Kong?

Orders for generic Contractubex go by tracked courier in 5 to 9 business days with online tracking, or by standard airmail in 14 to 21 business days untracked. Every parcel arrives in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing outside about the contents.

Can I use Contractubex on my face?

Yes. The gel is light rather than greasy, which makes it easier to wear on the face or neck. Apply a thin film and press it in gently instead of rubbing hard, and keep it away from your eyes, lips and nostrils. Start only after the skin has fully closed.

How long does a 15g tube of Contractubex last?

Used twice a day on a single small scar, a 15g tube usually covers about four to six weeks. A long scar, or three applications a day, will finish it sooner. If you are treating more than one scar, a two- or four-tube pack saves reordering.

Does Contractubex work on old scars?

It is used on scars of any age, but the response is usually better on scars that are still red and firm. One that has been pale, soft and settled for years may change very little. Either way, steady use over several months is what gives the gel a chance to work.

Can I use Contractubex on stretch marks or acne scars?

The gel is sold for raised scars and keloids after surgery, burns or injury, and for scar tissue that has healed tight. Stretch marks and sunken acne scars are a different kind of skin change, and this gel is not aimed at them.

About Contractubex

A gel for raised and tight scars

Scars that stay raised, firm or tight long after a wound has closed are what Contractubex is for. It is a clear, non-greasy gel that you massage into the scar to soften it and help it lie flatter. It gets used on hypertrophic scars — raised, firm scars that stay inside the outline of the original wound — on keloids, which grow beyond it, and on scar tissue left stiff by surgery, a burn or an accident. Tubes hold 15g, sold one, two or four at a time.

What allantoin, heparin and onion extract do

Three actives share the work. Allantoin soothes the skin and holds moisture in its top layer. Heparin softens the dense tissue that makes a scar feel hard under your finger. Extractum cepae — onion extract — is included for its calming effect on skin that is still red and inflamed. They act where you rub them in, on the scar itself.

Putting it on

Start once the wound has closed and any stitches are out; the gel belongs on sealed skin, not on a raw or weeping surface. Squeeze a thin film along the scar and massage it in with a clean fingertip for about a minute, two or three times a day. On the face and neck, use a lighter touch. Keep it away from your eyes, lips and other moist surfaces, and wash your hands afterwards. Between uses, close the tube and keep it out of direct sunlight.

Giving it time

A scar does not soften in a week. Plan on several weeks at the least, and several months if the scar is large or stubborn. Results tend to be better on a scar that is still pink and firm than on one that has been pale and flat for years. Photographing it under the same light every few weeks makes progress easier to spot than the mirror does.

Reactions on the skin

Some redness, itching or a cool, prickly feel at the spot is common in the first days and usually passes. If the skin gets angrier instead of calmer, stop using it. Hives, blisters, or swelling that spreads past the scar need urgent treatment.
