FAQ
Which Ditropan strengths and pack sizes can I order?
It is generic oxybutynin tablets, not the original Ditropan. It comes in 2.5mg and 5mg strengths. 2.5mg comes in packs of 30, 60, 90, 120 or 240; 5mg comes in packs of 10, 20, 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240 or 360. Larger packs cost less per tablet.
What if my Ditropan parcel does not arrive in Hong Kong?
If a Ditropan parcel does not arrive within the delivery window, or arrives damaged, it is sent again free. If that is not possible, the order is refunded. Tracked courier takes 5 to 9 business days with online tracking; standard airmail takes 14 to 21 business days, 30 at most.
What is another name for oxybutynin?
Ditropan and Oxytrol are brand names of oxybutynin, which is also sold as Kentera. Here, oxybutynin can be bought online as generic Ditropan, and also as oxybutynin tablets. These are generics, not the original brand.
How long does Ditropan take to work?
Some people notice fewer urges within the first two weeks, but the full effect usually builds over six to eight weeks, so it is worth judging the tablets over a couple of months rather than a few days.
What is the difference between the 2.5mg and 5mg Ditropan tablets?
Only the amount of oxybutynin in each tablet: 5mg is twice the 2.5mg dose. Both come in a range of pack sizes, so the strength you already use is the one to reorder, with the pack size chosen to match how long you want it to last.
Can I drink alcohol with Ditropan?
Alcohol deepens the drowsiness and dizziness oxybutynin can cause, so the effects of a drink often feel stronger than usual while you are taking the tablets. A large amount of alcohol is likely to leave you more unsteady and more tired than it otherwise would.
Why does oxybutynin cause a dry mouth?
The same nerve signals that tell the bladder muscle to relax also switch on saliva and tears, so blocking them leaves the mouth, throat and eyes dry. Sipping water through the day, chewing sugar-free gum and keeping a glass by the bed are the usual ways people take the edge off it.
Does Ditropan cure an overactive bladder?
No. Oxybutynin keeps the symptoms down for as long as you take it, and the sudden urges and leaking tend to return once the tablets are stopped. It eases the problem rather than fixing the cause behind it.
About Ditropan
What oxybutynin does about those sudden urges
If you plan your day around where the nearest toilet is, wake several times a night, or sometimes leak before you get there, that is overactive bladder: the bladder muscle squeezes before the bladder is full. Oxybutynin, the ingredient in these tablets, is an antimuscarinic. It blocks acetylcholine, the chemical messenger that tells that muscle to contract, so the bladder can hold more and squeezes less often by itself. The same action is used when a nerve condition leaves the bladder muscle overactive.
Why these tablets are taken several times a day
These are short-acting tablets, which is why the dose is repeated two to four times a day; long-acting oxybutynin is a different product. Spread the tablets over the hours you are awake, keep to similar times from one day to the next, and take them with water. Meals do not matter.
Dry mouth, constipation and other effects
A dry mouth is the effect most people notice, often with dry eyes, constipation and blurred vision. Drowsiness and light-headedness are common at the start. Confusion or hallucinations are uncommon, and are seen most often in older people. Being unable to pass urine at all, or becoming feverish, dizzy, confused or fast-pulsed after time in the heat, needs urgent treatment: oxybutynin makes it harder for the body to cool itself down.
When other medicines dry you out too
Many hay fever antihistamines, some antidepressants and antipsychotics have the same drying action as oxybutynin, and together they can leave your mouth, throat and eyes noticeably drier, with more constipation and drowsiness. Grapefruit juice is worth knowing about as well: it slows the breakdown of oxybutynin, so more of it stays in your body.
The 2.5mg and 5mg tablets
Both strengths are oxybutynin in a plain tablet, and the packs run from 30 to 240 tablets at 2.5mg and from 10 to 360 at 5mg. The shop also sells the same tablets under the plain name Oxybutynin — same ingredient, same two strengths, same tablet form — so the name on the pack is the only real difference between them. There is more on how oxybutynin works and what to expect on the oxybutynin page. Store the tablets out of the heat and out of reach of children.
