FAQ

Which Escitalopram strengths and pack sizes can I order?

Escitalopram tablets come in 5mg, 10mg and 20mg. For each strength, pack sizes range from 30 to 360 tablets. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

Is Escitalopram delivered discreetly to Hong Kong?

Yes. Every Escitalopram order ships in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing outside about the contents. Tracked courier takes 5 to 9 business days and includes online tracking. Standard airmail takes 14 to 21 business days, or 30 at most, and is untracked.

What are the other names for escitalopram?

Brand names for escitalopram include Lexapro, Cipralex, Lexamil, Nexito and Seroplex. Escitalopram tablets are a pure generic escitalopram product and are not any of those brands. Here, escitalopram can also be bought online as generic Lexapro.

How long does escitalopram take to work?

Sleep and appetite often change first, mood after that. Expect about a fortnight before anything shifts and four to six weeks at a steady dose before judging it, rather than writing it off in the first few days.

Can I drink alcohol with escitalopram?

Alcohol adds to the drowsiness, dizziness and slowed concentration that escitalopram can already cause, most noticeably in the first weeks. Many people begin with none and see how they react before trying even a small drink.

What if I miss a dose of escitalopram?

If you forget, take the tablet when you remember on the same day. When the next dose is already due, leave the missed one and carry on as usual — two at once is not the way to catch up. A single missed day is unlikely to set your progress back.

Is escitalopram the same as Lexapro?

Yes — Lexapro is the branded version and this is the generic, with the same active ingredient in both. Each comes as 5mg, 10mg and 20mg tablets, so you choose the strength you need either way. Only the brand name differs.

Does escitalopram affect the contraceptive pill?

No. Escitalopram does not make the pill, patch, ring or injection less reliable, and nothing extra is needed. The antibiotics that do interfere are rifampicin and rifabutin, which speed up how the body clears the hormones; vomiting or severe diarrhoea can also affect a pill.

About Escitalopram

What escitalopram tablets are for

Escitalopram belongs to the SSRI family of antidepressants — selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It is used for depression and generalised anxiety disorder, the background worry that rarely switches off, and also for panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and social anxiety disorder. The tablets are sold in 5mg, 10mg and 20mg strengths.

How it works and when to expect results

Serotonin is a brain chemical tied to mood and stress. After nerve cells release it they soak most of it back up, and escitalopram blocks part of that reabsorption so more remains in play. Results arrive slowly. Some people feel a shift in the first one or two weeks, the fuller benefit comes at around four to six weeks, and treatment for depression commonly carries on for six months or more after recovery. The dose is one tablet a day, swallowed with water, with or without a meal.

Side effects: common, and the rare serious ones

Headaches, nausea, sweating, diarrhoea or constipation, aching joints and muscles, dizziness, drowsiness, restlessness, changes in sleep, appetite and weight, and a lower sex drive are common in the opening weeks and mostly settle as the body adjusts. Feeling jittery early on belongs to the same settling process. While drowsy or dizzy, stay off the road and away from machinery.

Serious reactions are rare. A swollen throat or tongue, an itchy raised rash or difficulty breathing needs urgent treatment. Serotonin syndrome shows as a fast heartbeat, sweating, shaking, twitching muscles and confusion or agitation. A rare heart rhythm problem can bring a fast, irregular pulse, light-headedness and fainting, and internal bleeding may appear as unexplained bruises or blood in pee, poo or vomit.

Other medicines, alcohol and coming off it

Tramadol, migraine triptans and St John's wort all raise serotonin levels too, and taking them alongside escitalopram increases the risk of serotonin syndrome. Anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen and aspirin add to the bleeding risk. Alcohol deepens the drowsiness and dizziness. Stopping abruptly can bring withdrawal symptoms, so the dose is tailed down over several weeks rather than cut off.

Strengths, packs and the branded version

Lexapro holds the same active ingredient in the same three tablet strengths, 5mg, 10mg and 20mg, so what separates the two is the brand name on the pack. Packs run from 30 tablets to 360. The escitalopram page covers the ingredient on its own.
