FAQ
Which Flomax strengths and pack sizes can I order?
Flomax comes as 0.2mg and 0.4mg capsules in packs of 30, 60, 90, 120, 180 or 360. This is generic tamsulosin, not the original Flomax. Larger packs cost less per capsule.
What happens if my Flomax parcel goes missing?
For Flomax, if a parcel does not arrive within the delivery window, or arrives damaged, it is sent again free. If that is not possible, your order is refunded. Very large orders over 120 units may be split into several parcels. Support answers 24/7 in English and Cantonese by live chat.
What is another name for tamsulosin?
Flomax, Harnal and Omnic are brand names of tamsulosin, which is also sold as Contiflo and Urimax. Here, tamsulosin can be bought online as generic Flomax, and also as tamsulosin capsules. These are generics, not the original brand.
Does Flomax affect ejaculation?
It can. Some men notice that little or no semen comes out when they ejaculate, because it travels backwards into the bladder instead of out through the penis. This is called retrograde ejaculation and it is not harmful. Normal ejaculation returns once the capsules are stopped.
What happens when you stop taking Flomax?
The urinary symptoms usually return within days. Tamsulosin works on the muscle around the prostate and bladder neck only while it is in your system, so the relief fades when the capsules stop. Men who stop after months of use often find the night-time trips and the weak stream come back quite quickly.
Why is Flomax taken after a meal?
Food slows how quickly the capsule is taken up, so tamsulosin enters the blood gradually rather than all at once. Tying the dose to the same meal each day holds that pattern steady, which is the part that matters; which meal you pick is up to you.
What is the difference between Flomax 0.2mg and 0.4mg?
They hold the same medicine at two different amounts. The 0.4mg capsule is the usual daily dose for an enlarged prostate, and 0.2mg is the lower strength; both are slow-release capsules that are swallowed whole. The number is simply how much tamsulosin each one contains.
About Flomax
What Flomax capsules do
Flomax is tamsulosin, sold here as 0.2mg and 0.4mg slow-release capsules for the urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate — benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH. The gland lies beneath the bladder, wrapped around the urethra, the tube that carries urine out. As it grows, it presses on that tube, and the ring of muscle at the bladder neck grips tighter. Tamsulosin loosens those muscles, so urine flows more easily.
Most men come to it with the same handful of complaints: night-time trips to the loo, a stream that starts with effort or stops and starts, and the feeling that the bladder never quite empties. It will not shrink the gland and it does not cure BPH; it holds the symptoms down for as long as you keep taking it. Some men feel a difference in the first few days, and the full benefit takes a couple of weeks to build.
How to take it
Take one capsule daily, 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Swallow it whole; crushing or chewing it, or opening the shell, spoils the slow release. A missed dose can be taken later the same day if the next one is not due soon; otherwise leave it and keep to your usual time. Never take two at once.
Side effects to expect
Dizziness and lightheadedness top the list, most often when you stand up quickly and during the first weeks or after a strength change; rising in stages helps. Sleepiness, a stuffy or runny nose, back pain, diarrhoea, blurred vision and disturbed sleep are all reported. Some men ejaculate little or no semen while they take it.
A few effects cannot be waited out. A painful erection that lasts for hours needs urgent treatment, and so does a severe allergic reaction: hives, a puffy face or lips, or trouble breathing after a dose is an emergency. Cataract surgery is a separate case, because tamsulosin can make the iris behave unusually during the operation.
Mixing Flomax with other medicines
Blood pressure tablets and other alpha blockers such as doxazosin deepen the drop in blood pressure that tamsulosin can cause. Sildenafil or tadalafil on the same day makes dizziness and low blood pressure more likely. Cimetidine, a heartburn and indigestion medicine, changes how the body clears tamsulosin. Keep the capsules in their pack, away from strong light.
Flomax or plain tamsulosin?
The medicine inside is tamsulosin either way, at 0.2mg or 0.4mg in slow-release capsules; only the name printed on the pack differs. The Tamsulosin page covers the other capsules of this ingredient.
