What you will receive

Inderal La is the originator brand name, made by AstraZeneca. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Inderal La.

  • The same active ingredient (Propranolol) at the same strength.
  • The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.

FAQ

Which Inderal La strengths and pack sizes can I order?

Inderal La comes as capsules in 40mg, in packs of 30, 60 or 90. It is generic propranolol, not the original Inderal La. Larger packs cost less per capsule.

How discreet is an Inderal La parcel to Hong Kong?

Every order ships in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing on the outside about the contents. Tracked courier takes 5 to 9 business days with online tracking, while standard airmail takes 14 to 21 business days, or 30 at most, and is untracked.

Does Inderal LA have other names?

Inderal LA is a brand name of propranolol, which is also sold as Bedranol, Ciplar, Dociton and Sumial. Here, propranolol can be bought online as generic Inderal LA, and also as propranolol tablets. These are generics, not the original brand.

What does the "LA" in Inderal La mean?

It stands for long-acting. The 40mg is not released in one go on swallowing; it is let out gradually, so a single capsule covers ground that quick-release tablets spread over several doses.

Is Inderal La taken once a day?

Yes. One capsule a day is the routine this product is built around, whereas propranolol tablets such as Inderal and Propranolol are normally split across the day.

Can I drink alcohol with Inderal La?

Alcohol adds to the lightheadedness and dizziness propranolol can cause, and heavy drinking over time pushes blood pressure up, working against the treatment. One drink is unlikely to be a problem for most people; a heavy night may leave you feeling faint.

Does Inderal La cause cold hands and feet?

Cold fingers and toes are one of the commonest complaints with propranolol. Beta-blockers narrow the small blood vessels in the skin, so the hands and feet feel cooler than before. It is usually mild and often fades after a few weeks. Gloves and thick socks help in the meantime.

Can I open or crush an Inderal La capsule?

No. The capsule has to stay whole: chew, crush or open it and the full 40mg is released at once, which can make you faint or send your pulse very low. Swallow it with water. Anyone who struggles with capsules can take the same medicine as tablets instead.

About Inderal La

What Inderal La is for

Inderal La is a 40mg capsule of propranolol that lets its medicine out slowly across the day. Propranolol is a beta-blocker: it stops adrenaline and similar hormones from docking at beta receptors, so the heart beats less forcefully and less often, and blood pressure falls. Three problems are treated with it — high blood pressure, angina (chest tightness that appears when the heart is working hard) and migraine prevention. With migraine it reduces how many attacks you get; it will not clear a headache that has already begun.

Why one capsule lasts a day

The capsule is built to release propranolol in stages as it travels through the gut. One capsule therefore does the work of several quick-release tablets, which reach the blood soon after swallowing and are normally dosed two or three times a day. Daily totals can be similar; what changes is the shape of the day, with fewer peaks and dips.

How do I take Inderal La?

Take one capsule each day, at roughly the same hour, with water. Do not bite, split or empty it — the slow release depends on the capsule arriving in the gut intact, and breaking it open can drop your pulse and blood pressure suddenly. Propranolol stacks with other medicines that slow the heart or lower blood pressure, such as verapamil and diltiazem. Decongestants like pseudoephedrine, common in cold and flu remedies, work in the opposite direction and can send blood pressure back up. In people using insulin or diabetes tablets, propranolol can mask the early warning signs of a hypo (low blood sugar). It narrows the airways, so it is not an option for anyone with asthma. Coming off it abruptly can worsen angina, so the dose is reduced gradually rather than stopped in one go. Keep the pack dry and out of strong sunlight.

What side effects can it cause?

Tiredness, cold fingers and toes, broken sleep or vivid dreams, a sluggish pulse, dizziness and nausea are the ones most people notice, and they often ease within a fortnight. Rarer problems include a pulse that drops far below normal, wheezing, fainting, and puffy ankles and feet.

Inderal, propranolol tablets or Inderal La?

The medicine inside all three is identical. Inderal and Propranolol are both quick-release tablets, each made in 10mg, 20mg, 40mg and 80mg, and both are generally taken two or three times a day. Inderal La is the slow-release 40mg capsule for a once-daily routine. Every form and strength is covered on the propranolol page.
