FAQ
What pack sizes does Lenalidomide come in?
Lenalidomide comes as 10mg capsules in packs of 10, 20, 40, 60 or 90. Larger packs cost less per capsule.
How is Lenalidomide delivered to Hong Kong?
Lenalidomide capsules ship by tracked courier, which takes 5 to 9 business days with online tracking, or by standard airmail at 14 to 21 business days, untracked. Orders over 120 units may be split into several parcels. Every parcel is plain and unbranded.
What are the other names for lenalidomide?
Brand names for lenalidomide include Lenalid and Revlimid. Lenalidomide capsules are a pure generic lenalidomide product and are not any of those brands.
Is lenalidomide the same as Revlimid?
Revlimid is a brand name for lenalidomide, so both contain the same active ingredient. What differs is the brand name. The lenalidomide sold here is a single 10mg strength, supplied under the ingredient name.
Can I take lenalidomide with food?
Yes. A capsule can go with a meal or on an empty stomach — food does not change how much of the medicine you absorb. Taking it at the same point each day helps it become part of a routine rather than something to remember at odd hours.
What happens if I miss a lenalidomide capsule?
Take it later the same day if you remember in time. If your next capsule is only a few hours away, leave the missed one out and take the next as planned. Never take two capsules together to catch up.
Can I donate blood while taking lenalidomide?
No. The medicine stays in the blood for a while, and a donation could harm a pregnant recipient. Wait at least four weeks after your last capsule before giving blood.
How long do people take lenalidomide for?
It is a long-term medicine. Treatment usually runs for many months in repeating cycles rather than a fixed number of weeks, and the number of cycles is reviewed as treatment goes on.
About Lenalidomide
What lenalidomide capsules treat
Lenalidomide is an immunomodulatory medicine — it changes the way the immune system behaves. It is used for multiple myeloma, a cancer that starts in plasma cells in the bone marrow, and for myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), where the marrow cannot make enough healthy blood cells. Some lymphomas are treated with it too, including mantle cell lymphoma and follicular lymphoma. It often runs alongside other medicines. The capsules sold here are 10mg, under the ingredient name lenalidomide.
How it works
Inside cells, lenalidomide attaches to a protein called cereblon. That attachment flags other proteins for disposal, and clearing them slows the growth of abnormal blood cells. It also stirs up immune cells — T cells and natural killer cells — that hunt rogue cells, and it interferes with the blood vessels tumours depend on. Growth of the cancer is hampered while the immune system attacks.
Fitting lenalidomide into the day
Capsules go down whole with water, not opened, chewed or broken. One capsule a day, at roughly the same hour, is the usual pattern. Treatment comes in cycles: several days with a capsule, then a break, then the next cycle. If you forget one, take it later that same day; if the next is almost due, let the missed capsule go. Two at once is never right.
Side effects worth knowing
Tiredness shows up first for many people, along with loose stools or constipation, nausea, an itchy rash, muscle cramps, swollen ankles, dizziness and disturbed sleep. A rash that blisters, peels or arrives with a fever is a serious reaction and needs treatment straight away. Lenalidomide also lowers blood counts, so unexplained bruising or bleeding, unusual paleness, or a fever with a sore throat or chills all need prompt attention. Sudden breathlessness, chest pain or one hot, swollen calf can mean a blood clot and is an emergency.
Birth defects and clots
Birth defects are the reason this medicine comes with strict rules. Lenalidomide can seriously harm an unborn baby, so it is not taken in pregnancy: a pregnancy test comes before the first capsule, and two forms of contraception cover the whole course and the four weeks after the last capsule. A man uses a condom for that same stretch, vasectomy or not, because the drug is present in semen. Clots in the veins are a known risk as well, which is why a clot-preventing medicine is sometimes part of the plan. Capsules stay in their original packaging until a dose is due.
