FAQ

What strengths and pack sizes of Losartan can I order?

Losartan tablets come in 25mg, 50mg and 100mg strengths. Packs range from 30 to 360 tablets, though 100mg goes up to 180 tablets. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

How can I pay for Losartan and cancel if needed?

For Losartan, you can pay with Visa, Mastercard or American Express on a secure, encrypted payment page, or with Bitcoin or Ethereum. Card details never reach the shop's servers. Orders can be cancelled within 24 hours if not yet dispatched.

What are the other names for losartan?

Brand names for losartan include Cozaar, Losar and Repace. Losartan tablets are a pure generic losartan product and are not any of those brands. Here, losartan can also be bought online as generic Cozaar.

What time of day should I take losartan?

Whenever suits you, provided it is the same time every day. Many people take it in the morning with their other tablets. Once a day is usual, although some are told to take it twice, in which case the two doses are spaced about twelve hours apart.

Can I take ibuprofen with losartan?

Occasional use is common, but ibuprofen, naproxen and similar anti-inflammatory painkillers can blunt losartan's effect and put extra strain on the kidneys, particularly if you are dehydrated. Paracetamol is the usual painkiller that avoids the problem.

Can I drink alcohol while taking losartan?

A little is fine for most people, but alcohol also lowers blood pressure, so it adds to the dizziness losartan can cause. Standing up slowly and keeping drinks modest, especially in the first weeks, avoids most of the trouble.

About Losartan

Losartan 25mg, 50mg or 100mg

Losartan is a once-a-day tablet for high blood pressure. It comes here in three strengths. Treatment for most adults begins at 50mg, 25mg is the gentler start used where a lower first dose is wanted, and 100mg is the top of the usual range. Take it at about the same hour each day; food makes no difference.

High blood pressure rarely gives symptoms, and it is the long-term damage to the heart, brain and kidneys that the tablet is aimed at. Losartan is also used to lower the risk of stroke in people with high blood pressure and an enlarged left side of the heart, and to protect the kidneys in people who have both type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.

How it works and how long it takes

If you start losartan, expect your readings to begin dropping within the first week, with the full effect arriving after three to six weeks. Do not stop because the numbers look good, since it controls blood pressure and does not cure it, and the numbers climb again without it.

The reason it works: angiotensin II is a natural chemical that tightens blood vessels, and losartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), sits on the receptor it would use. The vessels stay relaxed and pressure falls.

Side effects and cautions

Dizziness or light-headedness when you stand up quickly is the most common early effect; getting up slowly helps. Tiredness, muscle cramps, leg or back pain, diarrhoea and heartburn also occur. Swelling of the lips, face, tongue or throat, or any trouble breathing or swallowing, is rare and needs urgent treatment.

Losartan can raise potassium in the blood, so potassium supplements and potassium-based salt substitutes do not mix well with it. It must not be used in pregnancy because it can harm the unborn baby. People with diabetes should not combine it with aliskiren, another blood pressure medicine. Vomiting, diarrhoea or heavy sweating can push pressure too low while you are taking it.

Losartan or Cozaar?

Cozaar is the brand name losartan is best known under. The Cozaar listing here carries the same ingredient in the same 25mg, 50mg and 100mg tablets, so the choice comes down to which name you prefer. The losartan page sets out both listings and how losartan compares with other blood pressure tablets.
