What you will receive

Requip is the originator brand name, made by GSK. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Requip.

  • The same active ingredient (Ropinirole) at the same strength.
  • The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.

FAQ

Which Requip strengths and pack quantities do you offer?

You can order generic ropinirole 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg and 2mg tablets, each in packs of 30 to 360. This is generic ropinirole, not the original Requip. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

How is Requip delivered to Hong Kong?

Generic ropinirole ships in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing outside about the contents. Payment is by Visa, Mastercard or American Express on a secure, encrypted page, or by Bitcoin or Ethereum. Card details never reach the shop's servers. Orders can be cancelled within 24 hours if not yet dispatched.

Can I take ropinirole with food?

Yes. The tablets work whether or not you have eaten, so meals do not need rearranging around them. If a dose leaves you feeling queasy, taking it straight after a meal or with a biscuit usually helps.

How long does ropinirole take to work?

Expect weeks rather than days. The amount is increased in stages from a low starting dose, and it is usually the higher steps that bring relief. Restless legs is usually managed with a lower dose than Parkinson's disease.

Will ropinirole make me sleepy?

It can. Drowsiness is common in the first weeks, and a small number of people fall asleep during the day without any warning, even while driving or talking. Until you know how the tablets affect you, treat driving, cycling and machinery with caution.

Does ropinirole interact with other medicines?

Yes, a few. Antipsychotics and metoclopramide, a sickness medicine, act against dopamine in the brain and can weaken what the tablets do. Sedatives, sleeping tablets and alcohol all pile on the drowsiness.

Do I take ropinirole every day or only when my legs are bad?

Every day. For restless legs the tablet is taken each evening whether or not the legs are troublesome that night, and Parkinson's treatment keeps a steady level through the day. Skipping doses makes it harder to judge whether the amount is right.

About Requip

What ropinirole tablets are for, and when you take them

Ropinirole is a dopamine agonist: it switches on the same brain receptors that dopamine does, and dopamine is the messenger that keeps movement smooth. In Parkinson's disease the cells that make dopamine are lost, so movement turns slow, stiff or shaky, and the tablets take some of that edge off. In restless legs syndrome the trouble is a crawling or tugging feeling in the legs each evening, with an urge to keep them moving. Neither is cured, so most people stay on the tablets for the long run.

The condition decides the timetable. For restless legs it is a single tablet, swallowed one to three hours before you go to bed. Parkinson's usually means three doses spread over the waking day. Meals make no difference to how the tablets work, though a biscuit with a dose helps if it turns your stomach. Treatment begins at 0.25mg or 0.5mg and goes up in steps, so the first week or two can pass without much to show.

Side effects worth knowing

Nausea, dizziness, light-headedness when you stand up and sleepiness are the usual early complaints, and most settle as your body adjusts. Drowsiness can go beyond ordinary tiredness: some people nod off mid-conversation or behind the wheel, without warning. Hallucinations and confusion are possible, more often in older people. Jerky, involuntary movements can appear. Gambling, spending, eating and sex can all become hard to control; those urges usually fade when the dose is lowered. A rash with swelling of the lips or throat, or trouble breathing, needs urgent treatment.

Alcohol, other medicines and stopping

Alcohol deepens the sleepiness; sleeping tablets and other sedatives add more of the same. Antipsychotics and the anti-sickness medicine metoclopramide work against dopamine, so they can blunt ropinirole's effect. Coming off the tablets abruptly can trigger fever, rigid muscles, sweating and confusion, so the dose is wound down in stages instead. Keep the strips in their box, somewhere dry and out of the sun.

Is Requip the same as plain ropinirole?

In substance, yes. The Requip tablets sold here contain generic ropinirole, and ropinirole tablets hold the same ingredient in the same immediate-release form. Both come in 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg and 2mg; only the name on the pack changes.
