FAQ
What pack sizes does Sporanox come in?
Sporanox comes as generic itraconazole 100mg capsules, in packs from 10 up to 50 capsules. This is generic itraconazole, not the original Sporanox. The page shows the price per capsule in Hong Kong dollars, and the bigger packs cost less per capsule.
How can I pay for Sporanox?
Payment is by Visa, Mastercard or American Express on a secure, encrypted payment page, or with Bitcoin or Ethereum, and your card details never reach our servers. Sporanox orders can be cancelled within 24 hours if they have not yet been dispatched.
Does Sporanox have other names?
Sporanox is a brand name of itraconazole, which is also sold as Candiforce and Itrasys. Here, itraconazole can be bought online as generic Sporanox, and also as itraconazole capsules. These are generics, not the original brand.
Can I drink alcohol with Sporanox?
Alcohol does not stop itraconazole from working, but it can make the nausea and stomach upset the capsules sometimes cause feel worse. Itraconazole is handled by the liver, so keeping your drinking light during a course is the kinder option.
What is the difference between Sporanox and fluconazole?
Both are antifungals, but they cover different fungi. Itraconazole is the usual choice for nail and skin infections caused by dermatophytes (fungi that feed on skin, hair and nail tissue) and for some moulds, while fluconazole suits yeast infections such as thrush.
Should I take Sporanox on an empty stomach?
No. Sporanox capsules go down straight after a full meal. On an empty stomach the body absorbs noticeably less itraconazole, so the same capsule gives a weaker dose.
Why does my nail still look infected after treatment?
The capsules clear the fungus living in the nail bed, but they cannot repair the nail that has already been damaged. That part has to grow out from the base, and toenails grow slowly — several months can pass before the nail looks normal again.
Can I take Sporanox with simvastatin?
They are not taken together. Itraconazole raises the level of simvastatin in the blood, which makes muscle pain and, rarely, muscle breakdown more likely. Other statins are handled by different liver pathways and are affected far less.
About Sporanox
What Sporanox capsules treat
Itraconazole is an antifungal with a wide reach. It slows fungal growth rather than killing the fungus on contact, so an infection clears as the body's own defences catch up. It is used for fungal infections of the fingernails and toenails, for ringworm and other fungal rashes that spread over a wide area, for yeast infections in the mouth and throat, and for deeper fungal infections inside the body. Capsules are taken with a meal, once to three times a day depending on the infection.
How to take them, and how long a course runs
Swallow each capsule whole, straight after a full meal, which helps the body absorb the medicine. Opening, chewing or crushing the capsule changes how much reaches the blood. If you also take an antacid or a heartburn medicine, leave at least two hours between the two.
The length of a course depends on where the infection is. Skin and mouth infections tend to settle within a few weeks. A toenail takes around three months, and it keeps looking rough long after the fungus is gone, because the damaged part has to grow out. Stopping early gives the fungus a chance to return.
Side effects and warning signs
An upset stomach, nausea, headache and a dulled sense of taste are the usual complaints, and they often ease as the course goes on. Diarrhoea and a skin rash turn up now and then. The risk that matters most is heart failure: itraconazole is not used by anyone who has had it, and shortness of breath, a fast or pounding heartbeat, coughing up white or pink phlegm, swelling of the feet or ankles, waking breathless at night, unusual tiredness or sudden weight gain all need urgent attention. Yellowing of the eyes or skin, along with dark urine, points to liver trouble and needs the same urgent response.
What interacts with itraconazole
Itraconazole slows a liver enzyme that clears many other medicines, so the levels of those drugs can climb, and several of them are not taken alongside it. Acid-reducing medicines work the other way and cut how much itraconazole you absorb; omeprazole, esomeprazole, lansoprazole, cimetidine, famotidine and ranitidine all belong to that group. Some heart rhythm medicines interact too, and the full list is long.
Sporanox or plain itraconazole?
The capsules on this page are generic itraconazole 100mg; Sporanox is the brand name for the same ingredient. The 200mg capsule is on the Itraconazole page, which lists both strengths with their pack sizes.
