FAQ

What pack sizes of Trimetazidine tablets can I order?

Trimetazidine tablets come in 20mg, in packs of 30, 60, 90, 120 or 180 tablets. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

Can a large Trimetazidine order be split for Hong Kong delivery?

Yes. Very large trimetazidine orders over 120 units may be split into several parcels. Tracked courier takes 5 to 9 business days with online tracking; standard airmail takes 14 to 21 business days, 30 at most, and is untracked. Everything ships in plain, unbranded packaging.

What is another name for trimetazidine?

Brand names for trimetazidine include Preductal and Vastarel. Trimetazidine tablets are a pure generic trimetazidine product and are not any of those brands. Here, trimetazidine can also be bought online as generic Vastarel.

How long does trimetazidine take to work?

Do not expect a tablet to help within minutes. Trimetazidine shifts the way heart muscle gets its energy, and the gain shows up over days and weeks of daily use, as angina episodes that come less often or are milder.

Does trimetazidine slow the heartbeat or lower blood pressure?

No. It acts on how the heart muscle uses fuel, not on pulse or pressure, which sets it apart from beta-blockers and nitrates. That is why it is used as an add-on when those fall short.

Can I drink alcohol with trimetazidine?

There is no specific interaction between alcohol and trimetazidine, so an occasional drink is unlikely to cause a problem. Heavy drinking is a different matter: it raises the heart's workload and can bring on angina, which works against what the tablets are meant to do.

Can trimetazidine be used for tinnitus or dizziness?

No. Trimetazidine is a treatment for angina, not for tinnitus, vertigo or disturbed vision — the evidence in those conditions was not strong enough to support its use, and it is no longer used for them.

Can I take trimetazidine if I have kidney problems?

Severe kidney impairment rules trimetazidine out. With mild to moderate impairment the daily dose is usually reduced, and because movement side effects are more likely when the kidneys are not clearing the medicine well, that lower dose matters.

About Trimetazidine

What trimetazidine is for

Angina is chest pain or tightness that appears when the heart muscle is working harder than its blood supply allows — on a brisk walk, in cold air, after a large meal. Trimetazidine 20mg tablets are taken every day to make those episodes less frequent. It is used as an add-on when other angina medicines, such as beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers or nitrates, have not controlled symptoms well enough or are not tolerated. It will not stop an attack that is already under way.

How the tablets work

The heart normally burns fatty acids for fuel, which uses a lot of oxygen. Trimetazidine nudges it towards glucose instead, and glucose yields energy at a lower oxygen cost. That is why it can ease angina without slowing the pulse or lowering blood pressure, as beta-blockers and nitrates do.

The 20mg tablet is usually taken three times a day with meals — food also helps if the tablets upset your stomach. Swallow them whole with water. The effect builds with steady, regular use rather than arriving after a single dose.

Trimetazidine or Vastarel?

Both are trimetazidine 20mg tablets, taken in the same way. Vastarel is the brand name the medicine has carried for decades; the plain trimetazidine version carries the ingredient's own name. Choosing between them comes down to the name and the packaging you prefer, since the strength and the dosing are identical.

Side effects to know about

Stomach complaints come first for most people: nausea, indigestion, loose stools, sometimes a headache or a general tiredness. They often settle as treatment continues.

More serious, and less common, are movement effects: shaking, muscle stiffness, slow or unsteady walking, restless legs, and Parkinson-like symptoms. These can appear after weeks or months of treatment and are seen more often in older people and in those with kidney problems; they usually clear up once the medicine is stopped. Trimetazidine is not used by anyone who already has Parkinson's disease or Parkinson-like symptoms, or whose kidneys are severely impaired, and it is not recommended in pregnancy.

Looking after your tablets

Store them in their original blister pack or bottle, in a cool, dry spot out of direct sun, and check the expiry date before each new pack.
