FAQ

Which Zestril strengths and pack sizes can I order?

Zestril tablets come in 2.5mg, 5mg and 10mg, in packs from 30 to 360 tablets depending on strength. This is generic lisinopril, not the original Zestril. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

What delivery suits a long Zestril course to Hong Kong?

Standard airmail takes 14 to 21 business days, or 30 at most, and is untracked, which suits a long course. Very large orders over 120 units may be split into several parcels. Support answers 24/7 in English and Cantonese by live chat.

What are the alternative names for Zestril and lisinopril?

Zestril and Prinivil are brand names of lisinopril. Here, lisinopril can be bought online as generic Zestril, and also as lisinopril tablets. These are generics, not the original brand.

How long does Zestril take to work?

Lisinopril starts lowering blood pressure within a few hours of the first tablet, but it can take a few weeks of daily doses before the full effect shows. One reading taken early on says little on its own; the pattern over weeks is what counts.

Can I drink alcohol with Zestril?

Alcohol adds to the fall in blood pressure lisinopril causes, so drinking can leave you more light-headed or dizzy than usual, especially when you stand up quickly. The effect is stronger after several drinks in one sitting.

Does Zestril cause a cough?

Yes — a dry, tickling cough is the effect lisinopril is best known for, and it appears in some people within weeks of starting. It is not a chest infection, and it usually clears within a few days of the tablets being stopped.

How is Zestril different from amlodipine?

Different mechanisms. Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor, which stops the body producing the signal that tightens blood vessels; amlodipine, a calcium-channel blocker, relaxes the muscle in the vessel wall directly. Plenty of people take both. The dry cough belongs to lisinopril, not amlodipine.

About Zestril

What Zestril tablets are used for

Zestril is a brand name for lisinopril, sold as tablets in 2.5mg, 5mg and 10mg. Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor: it blocks an enzyme that narrows blood vessels, so they stay wider, blood moves more freely and each heartbeat has less resistance to push against. It is used for high blood pressure, for heart failure alongside other medicines, and after a heart attack to improve survival. Blood pressure left high for years damages the heart, brain, kidneys and eyes, and a daily tablet is one of the ways that damage is kept in check. The pattern is a single tablet, taken with or without breakfast, ideally at a time that is tied to something already in your routine. Readings climb back once the tablets stop, because lisinopril holds pressure down rather than curing it.

Side effects worth knowing

A dry, tickling cough is the effect people notice most, and it can turn up weeks after starting and last as long as the tablets are taken. Headache, tiredness and light-headedness when you stand up quickly are common early on and usually settle. Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat needs urgent treatment — it is a rare reaction called angioedema. Lisinopril is not taken during pregnancy because it can harm the developing baby. It can also raise potassium and change kidney function, which is why blood tests are usually done before treatment and at intervals afterwards.

What not to take alongside it

Ibuprofen, naproxen and similar anti-inflammatory painkillers blunt lisinopril's effect on pressure and add load to the kidneys. Anything that adds potassium, whether supplements or salt substitutes made from potassium chloride, can lift the level high enough to disturb the heart's rhythm. Other blood-pressure medicines stack their effects, so pressure can fall further than expected. Sacubitril with valsartan must never be combined with lisinopril.

Zestril or plain lisinopril?

Both packs contain lisinopril, and the differences are the name and the strengths. Zestril runs from 2.5mg up to 10mg, while the Lisinopril tablets come as 5mg and 10mg. The 2.5mg tablet is only in this range. The lisinopril page sets out the whole range side by side.
