What you will receive
Zithromax is the originator brand name, made by Pfizer. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Zithromax.
- The same active ingredient (Azithromycin) at the same strength.
- The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.
FAQ
Which Zithromax strengths and pack sizes can I order?
Zithromax pages offer generic azithromycin tablets in 100mg, 250mg, 500mg and 1000mg strengths, with packs from 20 up to 360 tablets. This is generic azithromycin, not the original Zithromax. The price per tablet in Hong Kong dollars is shown per page, and larger packs cost less per tablet.
How is a large Zithromax order delivered to Hong Kong?
A long course ships well by tracked courier, which reaches Hong Kong in 5 to 9 business days with online tracking. Orders over 120 units may be split into several parcels. Every parcel arrives in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing outside about the contents.
Does Zithromax have other names?
Zithromax is a brand name of azithromycin, which is also sold as Azee, Azikind, Azithral and Zmax. Here, azithromycin can be bought online as generic Zithromax, and also as azithromycin tablets. These are generics, not the original brand.
How long does a course of Zithromax last?
Most chest, throat and ear infections clear with a three to five day course of one tablet a day. Some infections, including chlamydia, are treated with a single 1000mg dose instead. Finish the tablets you were given even if symptoms ease after a day or two.
Can I drink alcohol with Zithromax?
There is no known interaction between azithromycin and alcohol, so a drink will not stop the antibiotic working. Alcohol can make nausea, stomach pain and dizziness feel worse while you are unwell, so keep intake low until the course is over.
What is Zithromax Dispersible used for?
Zithromax Dispersible is a 100mg azithromycin tablet that you mix with water and drink, which suits anyone who finds tablets hard to swallow or needs a smaller dose. It treats the same range of bacterial infections as the standard tablets.
Can I take Zithromax with antacids?
Antacids that contain aluminium hydroxide or magnesium hydroxide reduce how much azithromycin you absorb, so leave a gap of a few hours between the antacid and your tablet.
Does Zithromax affect the contraceptive pill?
Azithromycin does not make hormonal contraceptives less effective, so the combined pill, patch or implant still work as usual. The antibiotics that do interfere with the pill belong to a different group, mainly rifampicin and rifabutin.
About Zithromax
What Zithromax tablets are for
Zithromax is a brand of azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic. It blocks the protein-building machinery inside bacteria, so they stop multiplying and the immune system can clear them out. Chest and airway infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, sinus and throat infections, ear infections, skin and soft-tissue infections, and sexually transmitted infections including chlamydia all fall within its range. Colds, flu and other viral illnesses do not.
How a course is taken
Azithromycin courses are short. For chest, sinus, ear and skin infections it is one tablet a day for three to five days, and chlamydia is usually treated with a single 1000mg dose. Swallow the tablet with water in the morning or the evening, as long as it falls at about the same hour each day. A meal does not stop it working, though a very heavy one can slow absorption a little.
Finish the whole pack even when you feel better after a day or two. The bacteria that survive a course stopped early are the tougher ones, and they can return resistant to the same antibiotic.
Side effects worth knowing
Most side effects are digestive: nausea, loose stools, cramps, a smaller appetite and now and then a headache, usually gone within a day or two. Azithromycin can rarely affect the liver, with yellow skin or eyes or very dark urine as the signs, and watery or bloody diarrhoea that starts during or after a course needs attention too. Hives, or swelling of the lips, tongue or throat with trouble breathing, means anaphylaxis, which is an emergency. The medicine also lengthens the QT interval (part of the heart's electrical cycle), which counts if another medicine you take does the same.
Zithromax, Azithromycin and Zithromax Dispersible
This listing covers 100mg, 250mg, 500mg and 1000mg tablets. The Azithromycin listing is the same medicine sold under its generic name in 250mg, 500mg and 1000mg. Zithromax Dispersible comes as a 100mg tablet to stir into water, which suits anyone who struggles to swallow tablets or needs the smallest dose. Brand name and the strengths on offer are what separate the three; the azithromycin page runs through the whole range.
Interactions and storage
Heartburn remedies are the everyday catch. Anything containing aluminium hydroxide or magnesium hydroxide binds azithromycin in the gut, so less of it gets into the blood; a gap of a few hours between the two avoids the problem. Warfarin users should know the antibiotic can push the blood-thinning effect higher. Another medicine that stretches the QT interval, taken at the same time, adds to the chance of an irregular heartbeat.
The tablets stay in their blister pack and carton until the moment of each dose.
