FAQ

Which Doxycycline pack sizes can I order?

Doxycycline comes as 100mg tablets in packs of 30, 60, 90, 120, 180 or 270. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

What happens if my Doxycycline parcel goes missing?

If a Doxycycline parcel does not arrive within the delivery window, or arrives damaged, it is sent again free. If that is not possible, the order is refunded. Tracked courier takes 5 to 9 business days with online tracking; standard airmail takes 14 to 21 business days.

Which brand names does doxycycline have?

Brand names for doxycycline include Vibramycin, Oracea, Adoxa, Periostat and Doxt. Doxycycline tablets are a pure generic doxycycline product and are not any of those brands. Here, doxycycline can also be bought online as generic Vibramycin.

Can I take doxycycline with milk or dairy?

It is better not to. Calcium in milk, yoghurt and cheese binds doxycycline in the gut and lowers how much reaches your blood. Take the tablet with water, and keep dairy, antacids and mineral supplements a couple of hours away.

Does doxycycline make you sensitive to the sun?

Yes. Doxycycline can make skin burn faster than usual, with redness, itching or a rash on exposed areas. Cover up, wear sunscreen and avoid sunbeds for as long as you are taking it.

How long does doxycycline take to work for acne?

Acne usually improves over weeks rather than days. Spots tend to calm down slowly, so keep taking the tablets at the same time each day and expect a gradual change instead of a quick one.

Can I drink alcohol on doxycycline?

A little alcohol does not stop it working. Regular heavy drinking can lower the amount of doxycycline in the blood, and drinking can add to nausea or stomach upset, so keep it light.

About Doxycycline

Doxycycline 100mg tablets

If you searched for doxycycline, this is the straightforward version: 100mg tablets of a tetracycline antibiotic, in packs of 30 up to 270. It is the ingredient behind brands such as Vibramycin, and it shows up in two quite different kinds of treatment.

Infections and acne

Against bacteria, doxycycline is used for chest infections, urinary infections, gum infections and some sexually transmitted infections. For acne, and for the redness of rosacea, it is taken over a longer stretch, and improvement is gradual rather than overnight. Some travellers also use it to prevent malaria. Like every antibiotic it is useless for colds and flu.

It works by getting inside bacteria and jamming the machinery they use to make proteins. That halts their growth and leaves the immune system to finish the job.

Taking it properly

Doxycycline can irritate the gullet, so swallow each tablet whole with a full glass of water while sitting or standing, and stay upright for at least 30 minutes. Take it at the same time each day. A meal or snack helps if it upsets your stomach. Forgot one? Take it once you notice. If the next is nearly due, skip the forgotten tablet, and never take two together.

Calcium, iron, magnesium and antacids bind to it in the gut and reduce what you absorb. That includes milk, yoghurt and multivitamins, so leave a gap of a couple of hours either side.

Side effects

Headache, nausea, vomiting and a rash are the common ones. Skin that burns easily in the sun is another, so cover up and use sunscreen outdoors. Rarely, doxycycline causes bloody diarrhoea, a severe allergic reaction, or a bad headache with vision changes, and any of these needs treatment straight away. It is not given to children under 12 or normally during pregnancy, because it can mark developing teeth.

Another listing

Vibramycin is the same medicine, in 100mg tablets, under the brand name. The ingredient page, doxycycline, sets the two side by side.
