FAQ

What Fenofibrate strengths and pack quantities are available?

Fenofibrate comes as 160mg and 200mg tablets in packs of 30 to 360. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

How do I pay for Fenofibrate?

You can pay for Fenofibrate with Visa, Mastercard or American Express on a secure, encrypted payment page. Bitcoin and Ethereum are also accepted. Card details never reach the shop's servers.

Which brand names does fenofibrate have?

Brand names for fenofibrate include Lipanthyl, Tricor, Fenolip, Lipantil, Triglide and Antara. Fenofibrate tablets are a pure generic fenofibrate product and are not any of those brands.

How long does fenofibrate take to work?

The change happens in your blood rather than in how you feel, so there is nothing to notice day to day. Levels are checked after roughly two months, and if triglycerides have barely moved the medicine is not continued. Stop taking it and the old reading usually returns.

Should I take fenofibrate with food?

Yes, and it matters. On an empty stomach less fenofibrate reaches the blood than after a meal. Breakfast, lunch or dinner all work, so choose the one that is easiest to remember.

What is the difference between fenofibrate 160mg and 200mg?

Only the amount per tablet differs. Both contain fenofibrate and both are one tablet a day. The 160mg tablet is what adults usually take, while 200mg is the other strength in the shop for anyone whose dose has been set at that figure.

Can I take fenofibrate with warfarin?

They can be taken together, but fenofibrate makes warfarin and other blood thinners act more strongly, so the anticoagulant dose usually has to come down when the two are combined. A clotting test (INR) guides that adjustment.

Does fenofibrate lower cholesterol as well as triglycerides?

It works hardest on triglycerides and HDL, the "good" cholesterol that carries fat out of the bloodstream; the harmful LDL type falls only slightly. That is why fenofibrate is picked when triglycerides are the main concern, and why a statin is often added alongside when cholesterol also needs bringing down.

About Fenofibrate

What fenofibrate does

Fenofibrate is one of the fibrates, a small group of medicines that change how the liver handles blood fats. Triglycerides — the fat that circulates after a meal and gets stored — are its main target. Very high readings that stay high for years are linked to pancreatitis (a painful inflammation of the pancreas) and to trouble with the heart and blood vessels. The tablets bring triglycerides down and raise HDL, the cholesterol that carries fat away from the arteries. They are used as well in mixed dyslipidaemia, where cholesterol is raised alongside triglycerides.

Fitting the dose into your day

Take one tablet a day with a meal, and attach it to the meal you never skip, since the body absorbs fenofibrate better with food. The shop sells two strengths, 160mg, which adults usually take, and 200mg. Triglycerides climb back after you stop, so the benefit lasts only as long as the course. A blood test at around two months shows whether it is working, and if the reading has barely shifted the tablets are stopped. Strips are best kept out of sunlight.

Side effects

An unsettled stomach is the usual grumble — wind, indigestion, constipation or looser stools — and headache, aching joints or back pain turn up too. Muscle injury is the side effect that matters most: aches, tenderness or weakness in muscles you have not strained, especially with a fever, point to it. Pain in the upper belly or between the shoulder blades, with vomiting, can mean the pancreas is inflamed. A painful, swollen calf, sudden breathlessness or blood when you cough suggests a clot. Rarely, blistering or peeling skin, or swelling of the face, lips or tongue that makes swallowing hard, is an emergency. Raised liver enzymes usually show on a blood test before any symptom appears.

What not to mix it with

Active liver or gallbladder disease rules the tablets out, and so does badly reduced kidney function. Cholestyramine, colesevelam and colestipol grab fenofibrate in the gut, so leave an hour or more after the resin, or four to six hours before it. Warfarin and other anticoagulants act more strongly while fenofibrate is being taken, and the thinner dose is usually reduced. Paired with a statin, the chance of muscle trouble rises.
