FAQ
Which Minocin strengths and pack sizes can I order?
You can order Minocin as tablets in 50mg packs of 15, 30 or 45 tablets, and 100mg packs of 30, 60, 90 or 120 tablets. It is generic minocycline hydrochloride, not the original Minocin. Larger packs cost less per tablet.
How can I pay for Minocin delivery to Hong Kong?
Minocin to Hong Kong can be paid by Visa, Mastercard or American Express on a secure, encrypted payment page, or by Bitcoin or Ethereum. Card details never reach the shop's servers. Very large orders over 120 units may be split into several parcels. Tracked courier takes 5 to 9 business days with online tracking.
Does Minocin have other names?
Minocin and Minomycin are brand names of minocycline, which is also sold as Amzeeq. Here, minocycline can be bought online as generic Minocin, and also as generic Minomycin. These are generics, not the original brand.
How long does Minocin take to clear acne?
Expect several weeks before spots start to settle, and about 12 weeks for the full effect. Most acne courses are reviewed at that point, because by then it is clear whether the tablets are working.
Can I take Minocin with milk or dairy?
Yes, milk affects minocycline far less than it affects older tetracyclines such as tetracycline itself. A full glass of water is still the right drink for swallowing the tablet, and antacids and iron should stay a couple of hours away.
Is Minocin the same as doxycycline?
No, they are two different tetracyclines. Minocycline more often causes dizziness and skin darkening, while doxycycline makes skin more sun-sensitive and tends to upset the stomach. Both are used for acne and for bacterial infections.
Can Minocin stain teeth?
In children and during pregnancy it can, which is why it is avoided in both. In adults, a long course can occasionally darken gums or the skin, and in rare cases adult teeth too, but this is uncommon.
About Minocin
Minocin 50mg and 100mg tablets
Minocin is generic minocycline hydrochloride, an antibiotic from the tetracycline family. It stops bacteria making the proteins they need to multiply, which holds an infection in check while the body deals with it. It has a second, separate use in acne: it calms the inflamed spots and cuts the bacteria that live in blocked pores. That is why the shop lists it for moderate to severe acne as well as bacterial infections.
Two strengths are sold, 50mg and 100mg. For acne a day's amount is commonly 100mg, taken as one 100mg tablet or two 50mg ones, and infections often use 100mg twice a day. The 50mg tablets come in packs of 15, 30 or 45 and the 100mg tablets in packs of 30 to 120, so a pack size is easy to fit to a course.
Taking it properly
Tablets go down with a full glass of water while you are sitting or standing, and not just before lying down. Tetracyclines can irritate the gullet if they stick on the way down. Food does not stop minocycline working as it does other tetracyclines, though antacids, iron, calcium, magnesium and zinc supplements do reduce absorption, so keep them a couple of hours apart.
Acne courses are usually judged at around 12 weeks. For infections, finish the course instead of stopping when you feel better.
What it can do
Nausea and headache are common. Dizziness, a spinning feeling or light-headedness shows up more with minocycline than with most of its relatives. Long courses can leave grey or blue-black patches on skin, scars, gums or nails, and the skin burns more easily in the sun.
Rare effects are more serious: a lupus-like illness with joint pain and rash, liver inflammation, and a build-up of pressure inside the skull that shows as a persistent headache with blurred vision. A severe rash with fever means stopping the tablets. Taking it alongside isotretinoin raises the pressure risk and is avoided. Warfarin may need its dose checking.
It is not used in pregnancy or in young children, because tetracyclines can stain the developing teeth and affect bone growth. Anyone allergic to a tetracycline should avoid it.
Which tablet to order
The 100mg tablet keeps the number of tablets down, while the 50mg tablet allows smaller steps and shorter courses at a smaller pack size. A course for acne runs for weeks, so many people choose a larger pack to avoid reordering mid-course. The minocycline hydrochloride page has the wider picture on the ingredient.
