What you will receive

Sumycin is the originator brand name, made by Sun Pharma. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Sumycin.

  • The same active ingredient (Tetracycline) at the same strength.
  • The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.

FAQ

Which Sumycin strengths and pack sizes can I order?

Two strengths, 250mg and 500mg capsules, in packs from 30 up to 360; the larger the pack, the less each capsule costs. What you get is generic tetracycline, not the original Sumycin.

Is a Sumycin parcel sent discreetly?

Sumycin is sent discreetly in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing on the outside about the contents. Tracked courier takes 5 to 9 business days with online tracking, and a parcel that goes missing within its delivery window is sent again free, or refunded.

What other names is tetracycline sold under?

Sumycin is a brand name of tetracycline, which is also sold as Achromycin. Here, tetracycline can be bought online as generic Sumycin, and also as tetracycline capsules. These are generics, not the original brand.

Can I take Sumycin with milk or food?

Take it with water, not milk. Dairy foods, and meals in general, cut how much tetracycline your gut absorbs, so the dose does less. Leave an hour before eating or two hours after, and keep milk, yoghurt and cheese well away from the capsule.

How long does Sumycin take to clear acne?

Slowly. Acne treated with tetracycline improves over weeks, and a course is normally counted in months. Spots may keep appearing at first, so judge the result after a sustained spell of taking it regularly rather than after the first few days.

Can I sunbathe while taking Sumycin?

It is best avoided. Tetracycline makes skin burn much more easily, in sunshine and under sunbeds alike. If you have to be outdoors, wear a hat and long sleeves and use a high-factor sunscreen, and note that a sunburn can appear after very little exposure.

What if I miss a Sumycin capsule?

Take it as soon as you remember, empty stomach rules still applying. If the next dose is nearly due, skip the missed one and carry on as usual. Doubling up to catch up only adds to nausea and stomach upset.

About Sumycin

Most people looking for Sumycin want it for a bacterial infection, or for acne that keeps coming back. This listing is generic Sumycin: tetracycline capsules in 250mg and 500mg.

Tetracycline stops bacteria making the proteins they need to multiply, which halts the infection while the body clears what is left. Chest infections, some urinary and skin infections, and infections passed on by ticks, lice and mites are the usual targets. In acne it goes after the bacteria that infect blocked pores and also reduces the oil the skin produces. Colds and flu are caused by viruses, so it does nothing for them.

Taking the capsules

Picture the dose first: a full glass of water, an empty stomach, an hour before eating or two hours after. A glass of milk alongside defeats the point, because the calcium binds tetracycline in the gut and little reaches the blood. Yoghurt and cheese do the same. Antacids and calcium or magnesium supplements need space too: take them two hours after tetracycline, or six hours before. Iron goes two hours after, or four before.

Doses are usually split into two or four a day. For acne, plan on months rather than days. If you miss one, take it when you remember unless the next is almost due, and never double up.

Side effects

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and a sore throat are the common complaints, and the tongue can turn sore, swollen or furry. Sunlight is harder on the skin while you take it, so cover up in strong sun and wear sunscreen.

Severe headache with blurred or double vision, a rash or a swollen face, and watery or bloody diarrhoea, which can start weeks after the last capsule, need urgent treatment.

Tetracycline permanently stains developing teeth. That is why it is left out during pregnancy and for children under 8.

Storage, and where to read more

Throw out any capsules past their expiry date. The rest can sit at room temperature, dry and out of the light. For the antibiotic itself there is the tetracycline page, and the antibiotics category has the rest of the range.
