It acts on the nerve cells themselves, quieting the abnormal bursts of electrical activity that set off a seizure. The same quieting is why migraine attacks come less often.
Taking the tablets
Strengths are 25mg, 50mg, 100mg and 200mg. Treatment usually opens at a low strength and climbs over a few weeks, taken once or twice a day, with a meal or between meals, at the same times each day.
