What you will receive

Urispas is the originator brand name, made by Recordati. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Urispas.

  • The same active ingredient (Flavoxate) at the same strength.
  • The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.

FAQ

Which Urispas strengths and pack sizes can I order?

Urispas pages list 200mg tablets in packs of 30, 60, 90, 120 or 180. It is generic flavoxate, not the original Urispas. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

What happens if my Urispas parcel is lost?

If a Urispas parcel does not arrive within its delivery window, or arrives damaged, it is sent again free. If that is not possible, the order is refunded. Every order ships in plain, unbranded packaging.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Urispas?

If you remember within a few hours, take the missed tablet then. When the next dose is nearly due, leave it out and carry on with your usual pattern. Do not take two at once to catch up.

Can I drink alcohol with Urispas?

Both alcohol and flavoxate slow your reactions, and together they can leave you drowsier than either would alone. Keep any drinking modest while you are taking the tablets, and avoid driving after a drink.

Can I take Urispas with oxybutynin or another bladder tablet?

Two antimuscarinics together build up the same effects: a parched mouth, constipation, blurred vision and sleepiness. Together they can also leave the bladder unable to empty properly. Oxybutynin, tolterodine and similar bladder tablets sit in this group, as do many antihistamines and some antidepressants.

How long does a pack of Urispas last?

Taken three or four times daily, the tablets add up to 21 to 28 a week. A 30-tablet pack therefore covers about a week, and a 90-tablet pack around three weeks.

About Urispas

What Urispas tablets do

Urispas tablets contain flavoxate 200mg. Flavoxate belongs to the antimuscarinic group of medicines, which quieten the nerve signals that tell the bladder wall to squeeze. A bladder that contracts at the wrong moment gives you a sudden urge that is hard to hold, far more trips to the toilet than usual, and sometimes a burning or painful feeling when you pass urine. Those are the symptoms these tablets are bought to settle: overactive bladder, and the urgency, frequency and night-time trips that can accompany an infection in the prostate, bladder or kidneys.

Flavoxate is not an antibiotic, so it will not clear an infection. It takes the edge off the muscle symptoms while the infection itself is dealt with separately.

How to take a Urispas tablet

One tablet three or four times a day, spaced across the hours you are awake. Swallow each one with water. Take them with a meal or between meals, whichever suits your day. Because flavoxate eases symptoms rather than curing their cause, it is taken for as long as the urgency and frequency are a problem.

Side effects worth knowing

Dryness of the mouth or throat is what most people notice first. Blurred vision, sickness or an upset stomach, and eyes that ache or dislike bright light are also reported. Sleepiness can come on too, and it usually eases as your body adjusts. A heartbeat that suddenly turns fast or uneven needs urgent treatment. Confusion, which is seen more often in older people, a rash, a sore throat with fever, and heavy dizziness or sleepiness are effects not to shrug off.

Alcohol, driving and mixing medicines

Give yourself a few days to see how flavoxate affects your alertness before you drive or operate machinery; a sleepy spell at the wheel is the risk to watch for. Alcohol makes that sleepiness worse. Other antimuscarinic medicines, including some bladder tablets, many antihistamines and certain antidepressants, pile on the same dry mouth, blurred vision and drowsiness, and two of them together can make passing urine difficult.

Looking after your tablets

Heat is unkind to tablets, so keep the pack in a cool, dark place. Once opened, close it firmly again, and store it where children cannot get at it.
