FAQ
Which Zinconia strengths and pack quantities can I order?
Zinconia comes as 50mg tablets in packs ranging from 30 to 120. The price per tablet in Hong Kong dollars is shown on each page, and buying the largest pack lowers the price per tablet.
How discreet is a Zinconia order sent to Hong Kong?
Zinconia ships in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing on the outside about the contents. Tracked courier reaches Hong Kong in 5 to 9 business days with online tracking; standard airmail takes 14 to 21 business days, untracked, and can take up to 30.
How long does Zinconia take to work on skin problems?
Skin changes that come with low zinc settle gradually, so judge the tablet over weeks rather than days. It is aimed at irritation, minor sores and low zinc rather than at acne.
Can I take Zinconia with iron tablets?
Better to keep them a few hours apart. Both minerals are absorbed by the same route, so a zinc tablet and an iron tablet swallowed together leave you with less of each than if they were separated. Long courses of high-dose zinc can also bring iron stores down over time.
Can I take Zinconia with a multivitamin?
Most multivitamins already carry some zinc, so adding a 50mg tablet on top puts your daily total well above what an adult needs from food. Count the zinc in everything you take rather than treating the tablet as a separate item.
Does zinc help with colds?
There is some evidence for it: zinc started within 24 hours of the first cold symptoms may shorten how long they last and make them milder, and taken for at least five months it may reduce how often you catch one. A 50mg tablet is a much larger daily amount than the lozenges usually used for that purpose.
About Zinconia
What Zinconia tablets are for
Zinc is a trace element — a mineral the body needs in very small amounts. It keeps the immune system working, has a part in cell division, growth, wound healing and the breakdown of carbohydrates, and it is needed for the senses of smell and taste. When levels run low, the signs include frequent infections, hair loss, poor appetite, changes in taste and smell, slow-healing wounds, skin sores and trouble seeing in the dark.
Zinconia supplies it as zinc acetate 50mg tablets, used for skin irritation, minor sores and zinc deficiency. Adults need only a few milligrams a day from food, so a tablet at this strength is a top-up rather than a substitute for a normal diet.
What zinc acetate does after you swallow it
The tablet comes apart in the gut and the zinc is taken up, mostly from the small intestine, then carried in the blood to cells throughout the body. There it acts as a helper for the enzymes that build proteins and repair tissue, and it is part of how immune cells respond to infection.
Zinc acetate has a second job at prescription strength. In Wilson's disease, a rare condition where copper builds up in the body, much higher daily amounts are used to cut how much copper the gut absorbs from food. Over a long stretch, that same blocking effect can leave copper too low.
Why the timing of your dose matters
Food and drink other than water reduce how much zinc the body takes up, so the tablet works best on an empty stomach — with a glass of water, at least an hour before or after a meal or another drink. Take it with breakfast out of habit and less of it will get through. Swallow it whole rather than chewing; that also makes the metallic aftertaste less noticeable.
Side effects and other medicines
Nausea, stomach cramps, diarrhoea and vomiting are the usual complaints from a big zinc dose, often within a few hours of taking it, and they ease soon after the zinc stops. Months of high intake can pull copper, iron and magnesium levels down. Very rarely someone reacts badly, with swelling in the throat, a spreading rash and trouble breathing, and that needs emergency care straight away.
Zinc also binds some medicines in the gut before they can be absorbed. Tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin are the main ones, and leaving a few hours between the zinc and the antibiotic avoids it.
Keeping the pack
Zinc tablets are not fragile. A kitchen cupboard away from the cooker and out of sunlight suits them, and they do not need the fridge.
