What you will receive

Vermox is the originator brand name, made by Janssen. We use it to identify the medicine; the pack you receive is a generic equivalent, not the original Vermox.

  • The same active ingredient (Mebendazole) at the same strength.
  • The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock when your order ships.

FAQ

Which generic mebendazole strength and pack sizes can I order?

Generic mebendazole comes as 100mg tablets, in packs from 30 to 360 tablets. It is generic mebendazole, not the original Vermox. Larger packs cost less per tablet.

How is generic mebendazole delivered to Hong Kong?

Generic mebendazole can be sent by standard airmail, which takes 14 to 21 business days, or 30 at most, and is untracked. Tracked courier takes 5 to 9 business days with online tracking. Parcels are plain and unbranded.

What other names is mebendazole sold under?

Vermox and Ovex are brand names of mebendazole, which is also sold as Mebex. Here, mebendazole can be bought online as generic Vermox, and also as mebendazole tablets. These are generics, not the original brand.

How long does Vermox take to work?

Mebendazole works inside the gut rather than through the bloodstream, so the worms are passed in your stool as they die. Pinworm itching usually settles once they are gone, and the second tablet two weeks later clears the eggs that survived the first dose.

Can I drink alcohol while taking Vermox?

Alcohol is not known to interfere with mebendazole, so a drink now and then is unlikely to cause a problem. If the worms are making you feel sick or giving you stomach cramps, alcohol may make that discomfort worse.

Does everyone in the house need treatment for pinworm?

Usually, yes. Pinworm eggs travel on hands, towels and bedding, so the infection passes back and forth between people sharing a home. Treating everyone on the same day, with the repeat tablet two weeks later, stops that cycle.

Can children take Vermox 100mg tablets?

Children who can swallow or chew a tablet take the same 100mg dose as adults — mebendazole dosing is not based on weight for these gut worms. Chewing the tablet is fine and often easier for a child than swallowing it whole.

About Vermox

What Vermox tablets are used for

Most people who buy Vermox have pinworm (threadworm): thin white worms that come out around the anus at night and cause itching, usually in children. The tablet is mebendazole 100mg, an anthelmintic, which means a medicine that clears worms out of the gut. It stops the worms taking up glucose, the sugar they live on, so they die and leave in the stool.

The same tablet also treats roundworm, hookworm and whipworm infections of the intestine. These come from soil, unwashed hands or food, and the signs can be vague: stomach ache, loose stools, a poor appetite.

How to take a 100mg tablet

Which worm you are treating decides the number of tablets. For pinworm, one 100mg tablet is a single dose, followed by a second tablet two weeks later to catch eggs that hatched after the first. For roundworm, hookworm and whipworm, it is 100mg twice a day, morning and evening, for three days.

Chew the tablet or swallow it whole with a glass of water. A meal is not needed, and there is no special diet to follow. If the worms are still there three weeks after the course, a second course is usually taken.

Side effects

Worms dying off can bring a day or two of stomach pain, wind, loose stools or feeling sick, and these settle without treatment. Less often, mebendazole causes a rash, itching, headache or dizziness. A very rare allergic reaction shows as a rash that keeps spreading, trouble breathing or a swollen mouth and tongue, and needs urgent care.

Vermox or the mebendazole listing?

Vermox is the brand name for mebendazole. The Mebendazole listing is the same ingredient in the same 100mg tablet, sold under the ingredient's own name rather than a brand name. The mebendazole page covers the ingredient itself.

Stopping pinworm coming back

Pinworm eggs cling to bedding, towels and fingernails, and they survive long enough to be swallowed again. Wash hands after the toilet and before eating, keep nails short, and change underwear and bedding while you are treating the infection. Fingernails are the usual hiding place, so scrubbing under them at bath time is worth the effort.
